"What are you doing?" Ben Saxon's voice broke Anna out of her entrancement.
"Nothing." She replied, stretching her arms without getting up from where she laid on the ground.
"You are doing nothing, lying on the wet sand at night?" Saxon arched an eyebrow. "Seems to me it would be more comfortable to do nothing inside the house, where it's dry and cool."
Anna let out a sight, and averted her gaze from the sky to look at Saxon. "The sand is fresh, not wet, and the air is cool." She retorted, her eyes returning to the sky. "Besides, it's been a long time since I got to see these many stars."
"You know José said it would be wiser to stay inside. To not catch the neighbours eye." Saxon replied.
Anna shrugged. "I don't see anyone around, do you?"
Saxon let out a sight. It was true, none came to the beach at night. It was one of the first things he had noticed while trying to get a grasp on the routine of the area around the safe house. "You still shouldn't be out here alone."
Anna removed one of the hands she was resting her head on and patted the sand by her side. "Then join me."
Saxon grumbled, but let himself fall besides her. The sand protesting under his weight. He laid on his back.
"Long time?" He asked. "How old are you?"
Anna closed her eyes and took in a deep breath. "I turned 27 last week." But she felt like she had aged a hundred years during the past six months.
"You are joking." Saxon replied, looking at Anna. "Why didn't you say anything? We could have thrown a party."
"What is there to celebrate?" Anna's voice spilled over with defeat.
"Well… how about that you completed another tour around the Sun despite the shadowy sons of a bitch?" Saxon lifted himself on his elbows and looked back up at the sky. "I heard there would be a meteor shower tonight."
"I heard so to."
"Well, if you don't open your eyes you are going to miss making a wish."
Anna had barely lifted her eyelids when the first shooting star flashed above them. She sprang into a sitting position, her eyes fixed on the sky.
Saxon's gaze alternated between the sky and Anna, not with little amusement. The woman's eyes were fixed on the sky flashing above them, her teeth biting her lower lip.
Then, almost as soon as it had started, the meteor shower ended. "So, what did you ask?"
His voice seemed to break Anna from her reverie, and she turned to Saxon with a strange expression. It made him feel like he had trampled over something private.
Then she smiled playfully. She took a hand to her hair. "That this sand rinses off easy." She poked at his hair next. "For both of our sakes."
