"You've built a career on preforming the impossible."
It was something that Thane had once said to her. Shepard often remembered the assassin when she felt like she needed something solid to hold on to. The physical body was gone but his spirit had remained.
"Always." she thought to herself. Now, in her last moments, legs pinned under a concrete slab, she watched the reapers overtake the skies above her. A sky that normally would have been filled with stars was now blanketed heavily in smoke and fire from falling ships. Turian, Krogan, Alliance, their remnants covering the battle field like volcano ash.
Wavering in and out of consciousness Shepard watched helplessly as the universe went to hell. Thane was gone now, but what would happen to Kolyat?
"All of us…across the sea."
Thane had known he would die for many years, even before then, the life of an assassin could be unkind-and lonely. Shepard's life as a soldier had been filled with the camaraderie that only the Alliance Navy could offer. She had never been alone, not since she'd joined the Alliance. There was always Anderson and Joker to offer words of wisdom, more so from the former than the latter. She smiled. If there was ever a time she could understand what Thane must have felt when he entered his battle sleep, it was now.
Shepard's pain was slowly ceasing as the color drained from her brown skin with every drop of blood she lost. It wouldn't be long now. Crying to herself she mustered what strength she could and reached for her omni-tool to play recordings she'd taken of Thane: a prayer, reading from classic Earth literature, a story about his wife and child, pushing repeat to hear "siha" just one more time.
"You are the last of my loves." the omni-tool repeated. Her lips quivering as she wept.
Shepard could feel herself slipping now. It was time; she had remembered verbatim Thane's prayer for her, repeating it word for word not missing a single step, fire engulfing the sky as she spoke. The flames grew nearer as she closed her eyes and smiled.
"Meet you across the sea."
It was unclear at that last second if it had been her wishful thinking. Feeling a Drell hand slipping into hers and gripping it tightly as the world around her turned to dust.
