Drabble I wrote to try and make sense of some of the going-ons in Shura's head and her opinions on Rin and Shiro. Enjoy!

The news of his death hits her like a train wreck. In Shura's eyes Fujimoto Shirou had been a hero, a fool, and quite possibly a traitor, but never mortal. He was the strongest- the invincible (if not infallible) Paladin that had saved her life. He couldn't be dead.

The news that he died in a wash of blue flames turns her feelings of shock to heated rage. He couldn't have succumbed to Satan so easily. What- who?- was the cause of the crack in his impenetrable veneer?

Her assignment to observe Okumura Rin gives direction to her rage.

It surprises her at first how dissimilar to his twin the boy is. Loud, impetuous, and seemingly stupid- but there's defiance in his eyes, and determination. That's what they share, and Shura can respect it.

She respects it most when he stays her blade, shouting out his oath to become the greatest Exorcist to ever live. It makes her realize that the most important person in her life was not entirely a fool, not a traitor to the ideals he had instilled upon her.

That he was raising a son, not a weapon.

She tells him then to prove Shirou right. To prove that he is more than a weapon, that he is more than just a vessel for Satan's powers. To prove that his father and her teacher was in fact a hero because if Rin succeeds then that is exactly what he'll be. That's why she protects him now, and why she teaches him.

She wants Rin to be a good Exorcist, so she can justify what Shirou did. So she can justify caring for him and know everything he taught her was true and most importantly, good.
