~February 21st, 1987~

The Wind was at its hardest, the Summer-Side had already lost 2 sails, and was down to its last, and we were nowhere near a port. That last sail was the reserve we had stowed in the storage bay, and it was done for. There was a rip at the very bottom, and if the wind hit it just right, it would shred to bits.

"WILL! TIE THE MAINSAIL DOWN! DON'T LET 'ER BLOW AWAY!" Remerick yelled to the crew of only a few, it being a small ship with only a couple of sails. The sails had the quality of a cotton shirt at this time, being so battered up. Remerick ran to the Starboard, looking towards the front of the ship, examining the damage that was taken by a squall smashing the anchor into the ship. They were going down. He knew it. Remerick didn't have the heart to tell the crew, but he had to, or else they'd all drown.

He ran to the Cabin, yelling for the crew to follow for just a moment. The cabin was small, with just enough room to fit the beds for the crew. "Mates...We're going down. Grab your life jackets, men. There's enough room for just you on the lifeboat."

One of the crewmen turned to the captain at attention. "Captain! I'd be honored to give my spot to you on that ship, Sir!"

The ship was suddenly hit by a huge squall, tilting the ship on its side, throwing the metal coiled beds towards the crew and Remerick. The crew jumped out of the way, Remerick didn't see the beds fall towards his back. The beds all fell on one another, crushing Remericks legs. He let out a scream of pain, falling to the floor with the beds, his blood gushing from the wound from his bone sticking out of his leg. "Go God DAMNIT! GO!"

The same crewman propped himself up yelling "We're not leaving our Captain, Sir!" All of the others nodded, staying put.

Remerick yelled with his last chance of breath, the water rising to his neck "That's an ORDER from your captain! Now GO!" With those words, his head went under water. The crew rushed to lift his head above the water, but, he lost to much blood, passing out under the water, breathing it all in.

In the end, the crew was too late to save the captain, they rushed up to the life boat, got it into the water, and sailed it home as best they could. After several days out at sea, only one made it home to tell this tale.
