Red.
That's all I had eyes for. Not the countless others dieing around me; not the weapons being aimed to kill me; not my comrades crying out in triumph…
Nothing.
It pooled around him, glistening in the dim light of twilight. He just lay there, smiling weakly and chuckling to himself, occasionally murmuring out comments that just weren't worth listening to.
I stood over him, and it took a moment before red looked up; the red flickered over my face, the owner of the eyes cracking a smile.
Like he was winning.
Like he wasn't lying in a puddle of his own blood.
"…Dib-worm…what brings you here?" he murmured, smiling and looking slightly more crazed than usual. Coughing, blood dripped off his chin, running down the side of his throat.
It wasn't the dark red of humans, nor the bright pink of an Irken. No, it was his own colour, bright and almost shiny. It only looked as if someone had poured very thick maraschino cherry juice all over him.
That was one of the things that came with being a defect. Something special he could bitterly call his own.
He coughed again, more violently this time as he struggled to stop. Abruptly he fell back-there was no clank of metal on pavement-panting and wheezing.
"C'mere Dib…" he rasped, fangs drenched with blood seeping from his mouth, as he grinned even wider.
Shocked, I bent low, as I continued to tower over him. "Heh. We're winning. My people will…most definitely make your filthy planet an Irken breeding ground…"
I opened my mouth to protest, when I felt a sharp pain in my stomach; my eyes widened, my own red seeping from the corner of my mouth slowly.
"…but I don't want you to go through that…"
I made a soft choking noise, Zim withdrawing his hand from my abdomen; the glove was soaked in blood.
His claws were sharp, I knew. But I never knew they could pierce so deep, so easily. My face was much closer to his, and he brought the bloodied hand up to touch my cheek; it burned slightly. There must have been some of his own blood mixed with mine. There was a soft sizzle, where the blood dripping from my mouth mixed with saliva, hit his face.
He didn't even wince. Just kept smiling as black crept into my vision.
"…you're mine." He whispered very quietly, my strength fading fast along with my voice.
"Zim…"
"Now rest easy human…Zim spared you a terrible fate…" Giving one last chuckle, he murmured, "Mine…" before going still.
And he was gone.
I could feel myself falling forward, and I faintly heard sizzling, and smelled burning flesh.
So…I slipped away as well. The last thing I remember, is seeing nothing but red…
