Kind of a sad little ficlet. Not sure what constitutes as a drabble, but this might be one?
Right and easy are seldom found together when one is faced with a choice. In fact, sometimes choosing what is easy is exactly the opposite of choosing what is right. Within these choices, we often choose what is right not for ourselves, but for those we love most.
The truly unfortunate thing is that no one ever tells you which choice is which.
"I'm fine."
"Majesty, please, you haven't slept a wink in days." A desperate plea.
"I said I'm fine." Narrowed eyes and a stubborn lift of the chin.
"Sire, your kingdom needs you."
A long pause.
"I know." The breath of his sigh carried the crystal out the window, but the image inside of it was not so easy to banish.
Dreams are fickle things. There are some that are shared by many, and others that are held only by one. They are fragile and must be kept close, but even the most careful of dreamers sometimes find them slipping through their fingers. The trick is knowing when to let them go.
"You look sobeautiful."
"He's a lucky man."
"Just like a princess."
"Oh I just love weddings."
"It's a dream come true don't you think?"
"I still don't understand why you refuse to look in the mirror, you're stunning."
"One little kiss and he's all yours."
Dreams are fickle things. Sometimes chasing a dream is easy. Sometimes letting it go is doing what's right.
"Ain't you gonna do somethin'?"
"Go away, Higgle."
"She's forgetting." Barely disguised hurt.
"Perhaps we are better off being forgotten." A shared pain, a stoic monarch.
"You coward."
"A coward would chain her here and never let her go." It's better this way.
The dwarf had never claimed to be brave.
Sometimes forgetting is easy. We forget many things in life, like the color of the shirt you wore on the first Wednesday of last month. Sometimes forgetting is the hardest thing in the world. Some dreams are easy to forget, but others will break your heart.
"You may kiss the bride." If she closes her eyes she can pretend that her dreams are coming true.
No one ever tells you which choice is the right one.
There you have it. Kind of a different style for me, let me know what you think!
