Lygerastia - The condition of one who is only amorous when the lights are out.
Hal was somewhat surprised, once he and Kai had officially begun dating, at how similar things stayed. The younger detective was just as peppy and clingy as always, but he rarely was the one to initiate anything further.
Kai seemed to get embarrassed easily, whenever they were at one of their apartments and started getting intimate. So Hal backed off, not wanting to push Kai so far that his other side would feel the need to protect him.
They always settled down then, returning to watching television or going over files while the moment passed. It was somewhat frustrating for the older detective, but he maintained his composure.
It wasn't until the couple returned to Hal's apartment after a short night of drinking that things finally progressed further.
They were almost falling over each other; Kai from his weak alcohol tolerance, and Hal from his pent up desire. They'd traded several kisses on the way up the stairs already, and Hal just managed to get his keys out and unlock the door. Anything more was unnecessary.
Fumbling a little in the dark, Hal led the way back to his bedroom, pausing long enough to try and pull his jacket off to set it on the hanger when he felt those familiar lips graze over his neck and a nimble set of hands begin loosening his tie.
"K-Kai?" he gasped softly in surprise, reaching out to the lamp on his desk and pulling the cord to turn it on. Just as he looked down, he saw Kai's expression change, from desiring and heated to suddenly innocent, embarrassed even.
Kai blinked a few times in the sudden light, his face turning redder almost immediately as he released Hal's tie. "U-um, yeah sorry about that," he said shakily, giving a nervous laugh.
Hal's eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Just a moment ago, Kai had been initiating something further, hadn't he? Shaking his head, Hal finished removing his coat and tossed it over his desk. "Don't apologize, that was.. good," he admitted, hoping to encourage Kai.
The darker haired male fidgeted slightly. He couldn't very well say that he didn't want to continue down the path they'd been going, considering the current state of his body. It was just- "The light," he finally blurted out, blushing a deeper shade of red and glancing towards the lamp.
Hal looked back and forth between the lamp and his embarrassed boyfriend, finally putting the puzzle together in his semi-clouded mind. Took him long enough, for being a detective.
With his own smudge of embarrassment, Hal gave a short apology and tugged the lamp cord again. Almost as soon as they were in the darkness again, he felt Kai's enthusiasm return in the hands removing his tie and the lips eagerly claiming his own.
Honestly, Hal wasn't exactly sure why Kai felt embarrassed in the light. As Kai's hands traveled downward to unbuckle the taller detective's belt, though, the blond wondered why he hadn't thought of turning the lights off sooner.
