The dance of spirits

Warnings: Shounen ai, angst, death...
Notes: I wrote this originally as my past tense writing assignment for my English teacher. She gushed over it, showed it to another teacher who's moved to Finland from England, and had her fall in love with it too :) So it shouldn't be horrible.

I was typing on my laptop when I heard
the sound.
A soft, small plea that carried to my ears,
rode the bucking back of air.
I rose from my chair, scanned the room with my eyes.
Nothing.
It was night, the time when Morpheus guides the mortals into his realms of sleep,
yet,
he eluded me.
I went over to my partner's bed,
pulled off the sheets.
He wasn't there.
I walked with silent steps to the window of our room, when I saw something.
Beautiful, ethereal.
I pushed the curtains back, so I could see.
My partner.
Dancing as the night wind tickled his bare back, wove through the mane of chestnut hair.
I swallowed a tiny sound,
a sound that would, somehow, I knew this,
interrupt the dance.
He moved like there was a beat pulsing in the darkness,
like a techno song from wide speakers.
His muscles glistened in the low light,
he basked in the rays of the creamy, full moon.
The loose strands of his hair mimicked his actions,
billowed around him like a cloak.
His feet slid against the ground,
barely,
as if he was trying to fly.
I touched the cool glass,
whispered his name like a prayer,
Duo
His head turned,
violet eyes with darker flecks of vivid purple swimming in their depths
stared at me.
A slight smile grazed his full lips,
beckoned.
I pushed both of my hands against the glass,
willing them to sink through,
reach him.
And still
he smiled.
My eyes couldn't leave his,
the cobalt burned his white flesh.
His eyes called out to me,
his lips sang my name,
wrapping around the letters
like a caress.
Heero
The glass shattered,
cut my skin,
rained on my body like sharp rain.
I bled,
watched the rivulets of crimson.
He looked up at me,
reached out his arms,
called out for me again.
I stepped onto the windowsill,
stretched my wings,
flew.
And he caught me in mid-air,
his black wings melting into the night,
becoming one with it.
Together
he whispered,
Together we can fly
I looked into his eyes,
reached for his hair.
I tugged him closer,
breathed against his neck,
As one
The Sun's beams touched my eyelids,
brought reality with the light.
I lifted my head,
reached out a hand for my
Dark Angel,
my
Shinigami.
He wasn't there,
a piece of paper and a broken hairtie is all
I have left.
Duo
my mind whispered,
brokenly.
I trace the words on the paper,
so unforgiving.
Duo Maxwell,
180 AC - 200 AC
My tears fell,
blotched the ink,
fed my sorrow with the fat crystalline droplets.
I lifted my head,
heard his call,
so silent.
I opened the window,
took in
my last breath.
And then,
I flew.
