I'll be That Person
Disclaimer: As usual, I own nothing. Suzanne Collins does.
This is the story of how Annie and Finnick met. I'm so tired of reading ones where they just randomly fall in love. I never imagined it like that. Also, if a person named Darlin Daire is mentioned, I meant Finnick. This was a school assignment, so I had to use different names.
Annie walked along the beach, taking little note of the sharp rocks beneath her feet. She was use to this because this was the route she took to dive for pearls everyday. When she arrived at her diving rock, a flash of blonde hair gleamed from underwater. The torso of a handsome young man surfaced. "You swim wonderfully. Are you a merman?" Annie asked.
The man looked at her distastefully. "I'm human. Are you insane? Go away; this is my beach," the stranger said with contempt.
Who was he to insult her? She needed to get busy. There was no time to waste, as it was getting late. "If you will be so kind and excuse me, I'll go dive for pearls now," she declared sarcastically.
"I am Finnick Odair and this is my property. Being alone is part of my therapy. Go before I call the authorities," Finnick threatened.
Who would've guessed it was Finnick Odair? The young man won the Hunger Games and had come back changed. Once he was a popular man with many friends, and he returned a wealthy recluse. He was a mystery.
"My family is poor. They are hungry. I need money, so I dive for pearls. And you, the wealthiest person in District 4, tell me I can not support my family!"
Finnick got out of the water and walked towards her. Annie shrank back on reflex. He was a tall, imposing figure. But his demeanor quickly changed as he began to scream like a girl. "What on Earth?" Annie mused.
Finnick pointed a trembling hand at an unremarkable crab. The creature was not bigger than six inches, and was harmlessly scuttling along the rock. "It brings up bad memories. Giant crabs hurt a lot," Finnick whimpered.
What was his problem? Still, Annie chucked the crab into the ocean. An immediate change took place in Finnick as he reverted back to his previous self. "I'm sorry for how I was earlier. I know I have⦠issues I need to work out," he admitted.
Finnick intrigued her. Why had the arena scared him so? It had to be horrible, no doubt. Maybe he didn't want to be a recluse. What if he had no idea of how to be normal? This revelation made her heart ache. "I don't know what happened to you. I don't need to. But you're lonely and you need someone. And I'll be that person," she offered.
"You'll be my friend?"
She nodded. "We can meet here every day," Annie said.
"Well, we better get busy pearl gathering," he gruffly said.
After hours of dedication and lots of effort, Finnick became mentally stable and Annie's family was never hungry. Everything was looking up and life was as happy as it could be.
