Five years ago, there was an explosion that effected the world. Things called nanites spread into every living organism on the face of the planet. Humans, animals, plants, everything!
Five years ago my mother got remarried too, exactly a week before the nanite explosion. It was five years ago my life changed, and now...those changes are taking affect.

It was a typical warm Sunday in July. School just let out a few weeks ago for the students of Kinghorn. I had planned to stay home for the summer, you know hang with my friends, go to the beach, and possibly get a job and all but Richie had different plans. Richie is my step dad, I refuse to call him dad for a lot of reasons, major reason numeral uno. He constantly tries to make my life hell (I seem to be the only one to think so though). He convinced my mom that it would be a great idea if my sister and I went away for the summer. When my mom asked where he suggested grandma Estella's.
So here I am, waiting at a bus stop with my sister in the blistering heat waiting for a commercial bus to take us to our grandmother's. I loved nana Estella, she use to baby sit Tasha and me when we used to live next door to her. She was a wonderful, and crazy women, I loved her to pieces but for my step-loser to abruptly decided to relocate Tasha and me was bull, and it irked me to no end.
Who did he think he was! It was just as much of a surprise to nana when she got the call from him the night before and he said we would be over by late afternoon. I mean he didn't even ask her! So now we where intruding on our grandmother, and he was sending us there for the hole summer! What-a-Jerk((I'm not sure what the 2 ** stood for)). Not to mention I had plans (as I've said) to spend the summer with my friends.
"Maevi there it is!"
Well, there's no going back now. Besides they had left us here a good hour ago so it's not like I could argue with them more on the topic anyway. I sighed to myself and slung my tattered backpack across my shoulder, and lifted up Tasha's 'hello kitty' suitcase. I've never ridden a travel bus before, and neither had my sister so this was new to us both. Then again I had always spent my summers home too. I got the impression as I climbed aboard the Grey hound, I would be doing a lot of new and 'exciting' things this summer.
