A somewhat different take on the coffee scene from Infamous.

Infamous Coffee:

Lois Lane was sitting at her favorite coffee café, cradling a steaming mug of her favorite beverage. She was hoping she didn't look like she was waiting for someone. However, all the furtive glances toward the sidewalk beside her, was a giveaway. Waiting was exactly what she was doing this misty evening in Metropolis. Waiting for one Clark Kent. The same Clark Kent that was standing not very far away, but definitely out of her eyesight. He was in the middle of an internal debate. Cross the street to her, or go home. Home, where if he was being honest with himself, would be safer. After Lana had been all but forced to leave town, and then the Linda Lake debacle, Clark was emotionally exhausted. He sighed, and looked at the back of Lois, and then down at his phone. He was tempted to text her some excuse as to why he couldn't show up. He and Lois had nearly kissed a few weeks ago. Only to have been interrupted by the return of Lana, and then all the hell of Doomsday at Chloe's wedding, had broken loose.

The almost kiss. He had wanted that kiss, he could be at least that honest, and had wanted it for quite some time. Somehow, Lois had ingrained herself in his life. He didn't know what the future held for them, but he couldn't imagine her not being a part of it. The "almost" moment, that's what Lois wanted to talk about. That is why she suggested meeting at the cafe, if he felt like talking. She had tried to make it sound casual, but Clark had told her that it would be a pretty complicated conversation. Of that, he had no doubt. Earlier that "day", Clark had picked Lois up at the airport. It was quite possibly the longest car ride of Clark's life. Though barely a word was spoken, it was hard not to notice the burnt orange bridesmaid dress in the truck. Clark recalled watching the various impatient rhythms Lois' fingers had drummed against her leg. Clark glanced over at her now, and saw she was tapping those same fingers atop her cell phone. He had missed her all those weeks she was away, staying with Jimmy in Star City. He keenly recalled the feeling of almost physical loss, when she had turned back to look at him with those sad eyes, and then disappeared from view.

Which brought him back to the present. That for a few hours Lois knew his secret and he had felt like everything just might turn out alright. Although everything hadn't turned out alright, he would always remember how well Lois had taken hearing about his origin and abilities. He would also, never forget the look of disappointment on her face when she knew that he was going back in time to wipe out the events of that time. She thought it was because she wasn't special. He had tried to assure her it was because she was special. She was special, he knew that. He just didn't know what he was going to do about it. He only knew that he was tired. Tired of disappointing everyone he had ever cared for. Which is why the rational mind of Clark Kent was urging him to go home, avoiding the "conversation." While the heart of Clark Kent wanted nothing more than to race over to her. Clark looked once more in the direction of Lois, and saw that she had started to get up. She was leaving. Now or never, Kent. That's when heart won out over mind, and Clark crossed the street.
