There was a bright light, and then everything came into focus.
Virgil had completely forgotten what he was doing in front of the massive painting, nor did he remember how he came to holding a red rose.
Dazed he looked at his watch, eyes widening.
"Shit." he muttered as he began to run towards the exit, passing the headless statues. A shiver ran down his spine, but he didn't know why.
He ran down the stairs to see a little girl, looking at around nine years old, waiting for him at the reception area.
"Virgil!" the young girl shouted with glee as she ran towards him, arms spread wide.
"Mary! What's gotten into you?" Virgil exclaimed, hugging her tightly.
"Nothing Virgil!" Mary shouted, breaking the hug "what are we having for dinner?"
"I don't know Mary, we'll find out when we get back home."
"Where is home Virgil?" Mary asked.
"Why, the island Mary." Virgil replied, shocked. Didn't she know where they lived?
"Oh." Mary said.
"What's wrong?" Virgil asked, noticing his sister's sudden change of mood.
"Just hungry!" Mary spoke, returning to her cheery self again.
"Well we can go to a cafe, but don't tell Scott!"
"Yay! We're going to a cafe! I can't wait to see what they have!' Mary exclaimed as she took Virgil's hand; and as they walked out of the gallery Mary turned her head back to the paintings and grinned.
