The people in Hogsmeade stared out their windows, pointed, and muttered to each other.

People peered at her everywhere, over the tops of their Prophet's, while sitting at the bar in The Three Broomsticks, and while passing her on the street.

Hermione Granger was, in fact, aware that she was being watched, and she also knew why.

After the war, it had taken some getting used to. She, Harry, and Ron were even stopped on the streets by random wizards who wanted their autographs for what they had done. What Hermione couldn't understand is why.

Were they congratulating her on how many people were killed? Were they congratulating her on all of the scars, bruises, and cuts she had acquired? They weren't fighting in the war. No, only a small number of the wizarding world was fighting in the war.

And most of them were dead.

Hermione knew she was lucky to be alive, and she knew Harry and Ron felt the same way. The only problem was that she couldn't get over how many people hadn't been lucky like them.

After Ron left her last year for Lavender Brown, Hermione spent quite a lot of time to herself. She occasionally saw Harry and Ginny (who were getting married that winter), but other than that she had no one. She didn't have parents anymore, she had no siblings, and Ron was gone. It was almost as bad as being dead.

She was rather surprised when a certain professor arrived at her small apartment just a couple of weeks ago. Minerva McGonagall, now headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, wanted her to come and teach Transfiguration.

"It won't be easy, of course," she said with a sad twinkle in her eye, "we will be building the school up from the ground this year, I'm afraid. But I do think it will be an improvement from sitting here by yourself all year, don't you?"

Hermione had agreed after plenty of persuasion, and here she was in Hogsmeade. She found it strange, not just because everyone was sneakily trying to stare at her, but because somehow she always knew she would become a teacher at her old school.

Hi There! This is my very first fanfiction, and it would mean a lot to me if you could comment how you think the story is so far, or what you want to happen! This is just an introduction, so the chapters to come will be much longer!

Disclaimer: Sadly, I don't own Harry Potter. :(
