Cramped in between a dozen or so mattresses, Tayla squirmed as her three best friends laughed at her embarrassed face.
"Come on, guys!" She whined, her small hands resting on her rosy, lightly freckled cheeks. "It's really not that funny."
Rayna, Grace and Hayley tried to stifle their giggles but as soon as Tayla tried to justify herself, they burst right back into fits of laughter.
"Sorry Tayla, we're not laughing at you! We're-"
"Laughing with you, I've heard." Tayla jumped in quickly with a playful roll of her big blue eyes.
"Exactly!" Rayna grinned, her light brown waves sitting untidily around her heart shaped face.
A Doctor Who plushie flew towards Rayna, who narrowly avoided the flying mad man with a small smirk on her face. Tayla groaned with defeat and flipped her head upside down, gathering her fluffy, brunette hair into a messy ponytail while the other girls calmed down, settling deeper into their collection of blankets and sleeping bags. The air was chilly, typical for an Australian winter night and the four girls were sitting in a large shed, situated on the 5 acre property Rayna's family owned.
"Let's play truth or dare, but without the dares." Grace suggested, a foggy mist leaving her lips as she spoke. "I can't be bothered getting out of my bed to do things."
"So you want to play truth's?" Hayley said slowly, raising one of her perfectly waxed, full eyebrows.
"It's the same thing." Grace replied, rolling her blue eyes.
"You can go first then." Hayley smiled happily, glad to not be stuck with the dreaded task of asking the first question.
"While you think of something, I'm going to go to the bathroom if that's okay?" Tayla said softly as she stood up, her blankets falling to her feet.
"Oh, you're going to walk down to the house?" Rayna asked "We can come with if you want?"
"No, it's fine. I'll just do it in the bush; bogan style!" Tayla said dramatically, laughing softly at herself as she picked up the small, pink torch. "See you later guys!"
"Good luck!" Grace chuckled
Tayla smiled softly and turned the small, cold handle. The creaky door opened slowly and the cold wind instantly hit her in the face. She quickly hopped outside and started searching for a good spot to go about her business, desperately wishing she was back in her bed. As she shone the torch around, something very shiny caught her eye. She couldn't tell what it was from where she was standing so she took a few steps towards the mysterious object.
"Oh, wow!" Tayla gasped as she got a little closer, realising that the mysterious object was in fact a beautiful, golden pendant encrusted with emerald jewels and a few symbols that she had never seen before. She reached out her hand to pick it up. "What is thi-"
Then everything went black.
