the street corner

(do you remember where we first met?)

.

.

Her sundress is pale pink, and the straw hat is big and the outfit is too, too strange for the dirty, dirty city.

She steps delicately - in her stilettos that don't match – over the rattled and useless papers and flyers that no one cared about. Her lips are stained pink and she smiles at the people who have left the flyers there, the ones that really couldn't give a damn about her existence. The ones who just give her a non-existent nod or a rude look and keep walking.

Then, on the street corner, next to a convenience store, a boy, hair as black as shadows and eyes as brown as coffee and chocolate smiles back.

His eyes whisper the sweet nothings she has never heard, but so desperately needs to.

She heads towards him and sighs contently, trying to tell herself she is so not already hopelessly head over heels in love with this boy.

He smiles even brighter, sitting on the dirty city's curb – the corner – and she wants to sit, too, when he touches her lightlightlightly, but she is begging for more.

And she begins to hum and the boy thinks she's a siren in sheep's clothing.

The next time she passes that street corner, she kisses him.

He smiles and this time he really whispers sweet nothings into her ear.

Then, for a second, everything is going right, and he pulls her into the street to dance – because they are fools in love and nothing really matters.

They laugh and he kisses her cheeks as she smiles her bright smile.

Then, wind flies through her neat brown hair, and she feels hands harshly push her and before she knows it, she's on the ground. She's been pushed out of the way and the boy gets hit by the black car they never suspected.

And she falls to her knees, tears pooling from her eyes.

Her boy is dead.
