"Wait!" I yell. Felix's hands hover beside my ears and Jane huffs, cocking an eyebrow.
"Would the fact that I tried to back out of this sway your decision? I mean, before I got here, I was prepared to run away because I had sniffed out Riley's lies but didn't know who to turn to, I didn't know what to do with the information. I saw you four that night." Jane's eyebrows furrow in confusion, her eyes frantic. I continue.
"We had followed Riley, his stories just weren't adding up," I explain, and Jane holds up a finger.
"We?" I exhale deeply, looking down, the hurt piercing my heart.
"Diego was killed, I presume, on that night. The only reason I came here was because I was looking for him. I was avoiding everything until he," I nod at Carlisle,"caught me. Riley had told me that Diego would be waiting for me, and that he didn't return on that night because he was with her for surveillance. Riley knew that Diego was on his trail, but not me, because I had stayed further away. We were told that the sun burns us, but it doesn't, and we wanted to confront Riley because he lied to us. And while we were listening to Riley and her, you turned up," I ramble. Something clicks in my mind and I slowly glance up.
"You wanted these guys to die, didn't you? Because they have the human. But if we'd failed, my creator, if she hadn't died, would have been punished, because we were illegally created..." I trail off, everything falling into place.
"Okay, that's enough," Jane hisses. The mind reader growled, clutching the human closer to him, obviously seeing all the thoughts.
"So you knew about this, the entire time? And don't even try to backtrack, all your thoughts have been read already. She has proved her innocence, and you know it. She does not deserve to die, and you," he hisses at Felix, "shall not touch her." Felix scoffs, his hands landing on my ears, and my breathing picks up.
"Get your hands off her!" the mind reader roars, and Jane grits her teeth, clenching her fists. She huffs, turning away.
"Come, Felix, we have to get home," she mutters in defeat, already slinking away into the slowly dying smoke. The other three flank her, sending us warning glances, and they all disappear. I crumple in resignation, and drop my eyes. What do I do now? Fred!
"Thank you," I mumble, glancing at the mind reader, "to all of you. But if you don't mind, I will go and find the one person I should have followed. You won't see me ever again. They are obviously going to keep tabs on me, and it's best you're not involved like you were just now," I mutter, slowly rising up. The vampires share glances and Carlisle steps forward.
"You are welcome to join our coven," he offers, his yellow eyes soft. I hesitate but remember the human. I snort, pointing at her. She shifts uncomfortably, glancing up at the mind reader.
"We are on a different diet. We drink animal blood." My face scrunches up in disgust, and I shake my head.
"Yeaaah, no, I can't deal with that." Everyone chuckles, and I fidget.
"You will be safe with us. Bring the other person. That is, if you take us up on our offer," Carlisle murmurs, smiling tenderly.
"How will I find you, anyways?"
"Alice, here, is a psychic. Whatever decision you make, she'll be able to see the future based on that decision. It will help us track you down if you ever decide to join us." I nod in gratitude, and sprint off. Vancouver, I'm coming.
First Twilight oneshot. Not sure I executed this well... my memory of Twilight is quite vague so... but anyways, review, favourite, follow? Till later, BooksLover2000...
