Despair and defeat filled him: he had fought his yami to save his friends and lost once again. Someone was sure to get hurt.
'I'm sorry, Yugi. I failed again. Why am i such a weakling? Why doesn't he just eliminate me permanantly instead of keeping me here?'
He wrapped his arms around himself and let himself sob in despair. Suddenly, he heard a noise. He looked up, tears running down his alabaster cheeks. He heard the noise again. The boy flinched, taking a step back. But then he moved forward, his fists clenched at his sides.
'What reason have i got to be afraid? If this thing kills me, then at least i'll be free and won't have to feel this way anymore.'
He took a step, and another, and started walking. The noise went again, and he started running. The noise led him down many corridors and torch-lit hallways, until he came to a giant wooden door with an Egyptian symbol on it.
He heard the noise again, this time it sounded like a human groaning.
The boy pushed on the door, but it didn't budge.
He pushed on it again, but it still wouldn't move.
The groaning sound came again, but to the boy, it sounded almost like someone was in pain.
'Someone else he's hurt... I have to help them.'
Gritting his teeth, he pushed on the door again, this time using all his strength, and slowly, inch by inch, the door began to give.
Finally, with one last push, the door gave way and opened.
An acrid, mildew-y scent wafted out and hit him head on. Coughing, he clapped his hand over his nose and mouth.
The room smelled like a sewer, or a dungeon. He stepped inside tentatively.
"Hello? Is anyone here?"
A loud, weak-sounding groan echoed through the room. He gasped and ran into the hallway for just a moment and came back with a torch in hand. He lifted it high, illuminating the whole room. His eyes followed the line of a rusted, moss-covered chain from the ceiling to where it connected to a shackle...around a wrist...an arm...a shoulder...a shaggy mop of silver hair.
