Note: Just a little Max and Millie drabble to get back into writing.
Disclaimer: Neither the Bill or any of it's characters belong to me. I believe they're the property of Talkback Thames.
Observations
If he stands a little too close to her, who is to say that they noticed? When his voice dips to speak her, it may just be something confidential regarding a case. Should he refer to her as Millie while he calls the rest of uniform by rank and surname, then it is probably because they have worked closely over a number of cases. If his face soften when he looks at her or a smile should touch her lips then it is definitely a figment of over-active imaginations.
But there is no ignoring it at the end of the next night out. They stand together on the pavement outside, his arm wrapped around her shoulder. Max is laughing at something that she is saying and then he leans in to press a quick kiss to her lips.
Their taxi arrives and none of the others standing shivering in the cold are surprised that they share it. Maybe they should have noticed before now. But then who would have expected to see cheery Millie Brown with the icy DS Carter?
Roger worries for Millie that she will be hurt again by the sergeant. Jo Masters can't quite squash her annoyance at her for becoming involved with such an emotionless man. Banksy pities her because he knows that the sergeant will break her heart.
But Mel Ryder grins, delighted to see her friend happy. Like Millie, she can see the warmth in normally cold grey eyes and she sees the smile on his lips every time he looks at her. DS Carter may be arrogant and he may be ruthless - but he cares for Millie and that is what matters.
Anyway, this is going to make the conversation in the locker room on Monday morning particularly interesting.
