Kimimaro rarely had any sense of the time the day, or even if a day had passed. They were all a blur, and he was never sure if he had slept for five minutes or five days straight. Even in the life of regular doses of medication, tests, and screenings, Kimimaro could never be sure.
The only time Kimimaro was sure of the time was when Tayuya came. It was always late in the night, or very early in the morning. That was the best time to sneak around the compound, as they both knew. There was also no worry of being caught by Kabuto or Orochimaru. After all, their love was forbidden, a secret between the two of them, and they put on a carefully rehearsed act when others were around. It would not be fit for Orochimaru's vessel, his most prized possession, and a girl to be in love. But, that was exactly how it was.
When Kimimaro became sick, Tayuya would come to see him as much as she could. She watched him sleep and listened to beeping monitors. Sometimes she held his hand or kissed him on the cheek, carefully avoiding tubes and wires as she did so. Sometimes he would wake up, and she would be curled asleep in a chair; he knew by her steady, slow breathing, or he would feel the light pressure of her hand on his.
They had whispered conversations of things, nothing in particular. Small talk, even though it was so much more. How was the mission, Oh, it was fine, Kidomaru accidentally webbed himself to a tree again… Then a light chuckle would most often end in coughs.
Sometimes they fell asleep together, fingers entwined. Other times it would be too near morning, and Tayuya would have to leave. But, there was always something that they said to each other before they parted, in sleep or in absence. Good night.
They never said goodbye. Goodbye meant the end.

Good night
Sleep tight
No more tears
In the morning
I'll be here
And when we say
Good night
Dry your eyes
Because we say good night
And not goodbye
We say good night
And not goodbye

A/N: Uh, yes. I was inspired when I was listening to Good Night by Evanescence. Really pretty song. And now I sorta made myself depressed… But, that's okay! Because I'm actually happy I finished this.
Please review! I love you! XD
