Sanguineous
Humans were an interesting species to observe. In a short span of time they had managed to evolve to a large extent. A more remarkable note was their ability to survive. They could lose an enormous amount of blood, yet still stand. Better yet, they were a species of trading, culture, and a whole range of different things.
At least this was what Tokiha Mai had believed.
Over the past few centuries, her clan had been harassed by humans. Worse yet, these humans never learned from their mistakes. The humans were muddled up within yet another war. Whatever it was about this time, Mai had given up figuring out.
Most annoyingly however, this war was now on her doorstep.
Dressed in a grey blazer, and skirt, Mai appeared more alike a schoolgirl. But honestly she didn't care. She appeared eighteen, but in reality, she wasn't at all. Wearing black knee-high socks, and loafers didn't help this concept either.
It wasn't like she went to school, but she found it comfortable nonetheless. How a zip-up corset which ended just below the breasts was comfortable, she wasn't sure. But it… worked for her look, strangely.
"Vampires never cease to amaze me." A tall, masculine man stood beside her before the large windows. He glanced down to her, a short scar intersecting a longer one against his cheek. "Even as humans fight amongst themselves, you stay here. Wouldn't you take a war to your advantage?"
Staring out the window, the whole of Fuuka's cityscape was displayed. It was night, but no one ever rested in this nocturnal city.
"Takeda…" She murmured quietly, flickering her eyes between the bright lights of the city. "Why must they fight constantly? Why must they shed blood?"
The smartly dressed man simply side-glanced her, his hands hooked behind him. "I do not know." He addressed her. "It is within our nature."
But wasn't this just an excuse? Mai focused upon him, narrowing her eyes slightly. He was dressed in a typical black suit, and white shirt. Her vermilion eyebrows lifted, her eyes being directed to the tie which was around his neck. It was teal, and contrasted well with his emerald eyes.
"To answer your question." Mai paused, brushing the fingers of her hands together. "There will be plenty of vampires down in the streets."
"But your hands, they are cold, aren't they?" Takeda gestured to her fingers, the skin paling to a faint blue. "You should look after yourself more."
"Takumi is more important right now."
"Even to put your health at risk? Go and feed, Mai."
Exhaling, Mai ran her tongue along a pointed canine. Painfully, it extended through thirst, and instead she shook her head. "I'm not fighting for a corpse like it's a piece of meat."
Grunting, Takeda shoved a hand into his pocket. Bring it back out momentarily, his fingers rounded his phone. Upon this notion, he woke it up and quickly inputted a number onto the screen.
"What are you doing?" Mai asked, looking over to him.
Trailing away from the woman and window, Takeda drifted towards the table. "Calling Natsuki." He spoke, the link connecting.
"Wha-I told you, not after last t-"
"Natsuki." The male human muttered. His back faced Mai, leaning on one leg, and stuffing his free hand into his pocket. "Take the lift. Mai isn't feeding again."
"Takeda!"
In response, he simply glanced at her, grinning widely. "We're on the top floor." Covering the receiver of the phone, Takeda shook his head. "You're too stubborn, Mai. What's the worst that could happen?"
"Turning into a vam-"
"Right, right." Takeda spoke into the phone again, ignoring Mai. "Don't worry, I'll get out." He laughed.
Perhaps it was irony when Natsuki opened the door. Mai wasn't sure, nor was she certain she cared. Even as Takeda nodded to the fellow human and left, closing the door after him.
Why were humans so…
Always making up their own minds, presuming their way was always better?
"Oi, you ready or what?" Natsuki grumbled, her clothing almost exact to Takeda. Her tie was blue, and her collar messy and undone. "I just saw Yukino and Haruka. Apparently it's chaos out there." She undid her suit jacket, slipping it off to throw it onto the nearby chair. "Why aren't you down there?"
"I wish people would stop asking that." Mai muttered, facing Natsuki, but looking out the window. 'Humans'.
"Look." Natsuki started, pulling her tie loose and slipping it off. "I know I lost a lot of blood last time, but I don't care. If it happens, it happens."
"That isn't the point."
"Then what is it?" Natsuki muttered, unbuttoning her shirt. 'Vampires...'
Why were they so stubborn?
"If you hate feeding so much, why are you wearing that trap of an outfit?"
What? Mai shot her a pointed look. Unconsciously her eyes latched to the smooth and pale skin of Natsuki's throat. She opened her mouth as it went dry, but quickly closed it.
"When I first met you, I thought you were a dumb, big-chested schoolgirl." Natsuki snickered, venturing forward. Close enough for their forms to touch, she clutched Mai's wrists, and frowned. "Your hands are freezing."
"Don't you start." Mai groaned, looking away.
The piercing pain of her canines distracted her, and the fangs extended entirely. Her gums instantly became numb, and softly, she cursed.
Mai hated bloodlust.
"Now don't worry." Natsuki coaxed. She guided Mai forward, her own back facing the chair. "It only happened once. You aren't like the others who want the human dead or a thrall."
"But I can k-"
"-Stop." Natsuki sat herself down on the chair, and dragged Mai over to her. "So can I. But I trust you." Tugging her collar down, Natsuki brought her shirt downwards over her shoulders. "We have plenty of people around to help, if it's really the case."
Besides, Natsuki didn't quite understand Mai's guilt. Sure Mai had killed humans in the past, many in fact. But so had she. Within this community, killing was almost natural. Sure it was an horrific thing to admit to. Perhaps if her life had started differently, she might have been repulsed. But she wasn't.
"It's your turn to look after yourself, Mai. So do so."
Inhaling roughly, Mai tensely held her breath. She stared at Natsuki's pale sarcoline skin. Yet even though she denied it within her brain, her body persisted. "I-I'm sorry, Natsuki…" She murmured, the numbness of her gums centring entirely on her pointed canines.
"Stop apologising." Natsuki laughed softly. She leaned in closer to Mai, and upon doing so, dragged her atop her entirely. Feeling Mai's lips glide upon her throat, she paused. "Ready now?"
The question was answered by a simple nod.
"Whenever you're ready." Natsuki continued, sliding her hands across the redhead's back. Remarkably she didn't feel nervous. But then again, this wasn't anything new for Natsuki. Helping Mai feed… it was almost second nature.
The skimming of fangs upon her neck stilled her abruptly, however. The sensation tingled down her spine and up to her temples. It made her feel woozy, powerless; the vampire's charm luring her in.
As those canines dug into her skin, causing her neck to lightly bleed…
Natsuki thought: humans and vampires really weren't all that different.
