Just a little something, short and sweet. Enjoy :)
The first time, she's annoyed. She's almost offended anyone would think they were together. She's a sensible woman, a together woman, a detective for heaven's sake. Why would she be dating a man who has the ability to be simultaneously a playboy and a child? So when the question is posed she lets out a huff of air and pretends it was never asked.
The second time she's surprised because she assumed the first time was an isolated incident. She raises her eyebrow in true Beckett fashion and tells the restaurant manger they've been interviewing that a voucher for a romantic dinner for the two of them will certainly not help the case along at all.
Most of the time, it has become a common occurrence, she responds with an eye roll or something of the sort. After awhile the tiny assumptions people make don't even end up on her radar.
But when the lady behind the counter at the bakery pegs them for a wedding cake order before they even have a chance to speak, Castle waits for the lashing Beckett will no doubt unleash only to see her… was that a smile? A small smile, a tiny smile, but a smile none the less he thinks to himself. Maybe he has a chance. The denial follows the smile closely but it's lighter than usual. More 'wouldn't that be a funny little idea' then the sometimes used, 'you think I'd waste my time on this man-child?'
When they order room service in L.A. and it's delivered up to their room and laid out in front of them on the table by the valet, he places their plates down first then wine glasses followed by a small vase with a single stemmed rose and a , "for the lovely couple." Even though Castle is hastily reaching for money to tip the man he sees a shadow of a frown pass Beckett's face but the time he turns to her it's just a heavy smile. Her eyes though, they look like they're searching for something. She doesn't mention anything, he doesn't want to pry.
Then there's the time Beckett types pointedly on her computer, hitting they keys with a fierce conviction. Castle mentions offhand something about keeping a tally of how many people think they're together because if they were, keeping a tally that is, they would be able to add another little slash after their last interview. Then Beckett surprises him. She not only takes up his offer, but she ups the ante. She causally suggests that when they reach a certain number, say ten, maybe he should take her out on a real date and see if all those people are onto something. He's a bit slack jawed, because really it won't take much longer than a week and also because he knows everyone is on to something .But really because after three years, he has a date with Katherine Beckett.
Tell me whatcha thought :)
