Digimon

Hey, Yet another song fic, and yet another Mat song fic . . . (I like spelling it with a single "T" because Yamato is to long.) Well, reading remains fun, skills remain sharp, and STYX's "Number One" is the song.

We see Mat alone in his room, he looks nervous as he reaches into the bottom of one his drawers.

(You can't be still, you're such a nervous fellow. Like a yo-yo, up and down.)

He removes a small bottle and turns the cap.

(Just take this little pill, and life will be so mellow. Feel the world start slowing down... )

He throws a pill into his mouth

(Around.)

As he swallows, we flash to a cold rainy night, Mat is standing in-front of a shadowy figure.

(Who's that rushing out the door? Who's not taking anymore? Who's been down this road before without you?)

He hands Mat something in a bag.

(You tell me who's number one! Who's not here who's having fun?! Who's the one, who cares so much about you?!)

Mat starts to stumble backwards, he falls onto his bed, and laughing hysterically, falls off.

(You won't feel the pain, you won't mind the rain.)

Mat lies there, still laughing.

(You can be happy all the time . . . all the time.)

Slowly he backs up as the room fades out around him replaced by hallucinations of pink rabbits and ducks, he laughs again.

(One dose twice a day, and the world will go away.)

The rabbits disappear. Replaced by screaming teachers, screaming people, the time he passed out at school. It all speeds back to his eyes.

(And you'll be smiling through the worst . . . of times.)

We are now in an alley.

(Who's that rushing out the door? Who's not taking anymore? Who's been down this road before without you?)

A gang surrounds Mat and starts to beat him when he doesn't have enough money for the drugs.

(You tell me who's number one! Who's not here who's not here who's having fun?! Who's the one who knows so much about you?)

The camera opens and closes as Mat's eyes open, he's in a hospital bed under hot white lights.

(I believe, I believe there's something more. I believe it's just beyond the door. I believe there's something better out there.)

He turns his head to find Mimi next to him, holding his hand.

(Wanna leave this place so far behind? I can see your face there in my mind. I believe there's something better out there.)

Mat falls back to sleep, the images slam through his brain, the gang, the drugs.

(Who's that rushing? Who's not taking? Who's been down this?)

The pain, the hallucinations

(You tell me who's? Who's not here who's? Who's the one who?)

We see Mat, he's out of the hospital walking down the street with Mimi, he kisses her softly.

(Who's that walking out the door? Who's not wasted anymore?)

They fade into the distance

(Who gave up that crazy war inside you?)

The camera fades up into the sky just above the sky line.

(I believe, I believe there's something more. I believe it's just beyond the door. I believe there's something better out there.)

(Wanna leave this world so far behind? I can see your face there in my mind. I believe there's something better somewhere.)

(Something better.)

(Something better.)

(Something better.)

(Something better.)

(Something better.)
