He smells differently than Troy.
While her boyfriend had a manly musk, Chad didn't. When she really thought about it, he didn't really have a scent unless you count how he smelt after basketball practice. It was a rancid smell, but Gabriella would just wrinkle her nose and kiss him anyway. She could always rid of it in the shower.
He kisses differently than Troy.
Troy is a soft, almost feminine kisser with really soft lips. Chad isn't. He grabs her around the waist and ravages her lips with his in a fierce kiss that makes her knees weak. His lips aren't soft, they are rough and unchapped but she just licks them for him and giggles at his curious expression.
He touches her differently than Troy.
With Troy, it's as if she's fragile. He's afraid of her almost. Chad knows where to touch her and when. He knows what she likes and how she likes it. He never fails to drive her over the edge while some nights she gives up on Troy because he just doesn't get it.
He loves her differently than Troy.
His love for her is secret and only she knows. Everyone knows that Troy loves her by the way that he acts. He's sprung and it's sickening sometimes but she can't let him go. Her heart is now Chad's even if they have to hide it from the people they care about but she doesn't want to leave Troy despite that.
He looks at her differently than Troy.
The sapphire eyes that she is so used to looking into have turned into brown. Chad looks her over like she's royalty, like she's the most beautiful girl in the world. Troy sees her as the new girl that he sung with during winter break. He doesn't see her for who she is. He doesn't see Gabriella Montez like Chad does.
He handles her differently than Troy.
When she wants to run, Chad doesn't let her. He tries to talk her out of it just like Troy does, but with him she listens. His words reach her heart and she holds him close, afraid to let go. Troy lets her go and expects her to come back. She always does but not because of him.
He speaks to her differently than Troy.
She never heard a difference in tone between the two until she and Troy broke up the first time. She noticed that Chad's voice is softer with her while Troy speaks to her like a casual friend. Whenever she hears Chad's voice, the love that he has for her is evident only to her.
He takes her leaving differently than Troy.
Troy is used to it while Chad isn't. He demands to know why she's running again. Gabriella can't break Troy's heart but she doesn't want to break his either so she walks away. He lets her go this time but knows that she'll be back. Troy can't live without her and will bring her right back into his best friend's arms.
