Candy Cane
"Honey, I'm home!" Nick called out as he pushed the door open with one shoulder. Both of his arms were loaded with groceries that he had stopped to get on his way home from work. He kicked the door shut behind him and walked into the foyer. At the doorway that leads into the living room, he paused to check if Gil was in his usual spot.
He was.
Gil was sitting at the dining room table, hunched over a laptop, files splayed out before him. He was glancing back and forth between the screen and the files, while his fingers tapped vigorously at the keys.
He hadn't even noticed Nick. No. He was in the zone, in his own little world of science and documentation. Nick smiled. He was also sucking contently at a candy cane.
Nick walked closer to Gil and tried again to get his attention.
"Shouldn't you be resting?"
Gil's head snapped up from the file he'd been flipping through, eyes large and eyebrows hiked, as he looked up at Nick, giving him an expression akin to that of a child who had just been caught stealing from the cookie jar.
So adorable.
"Heyo, Yicky," Gil uttered through a mouth full of candy cane.
"You're supposed to be relaxing, Gil," Nick said after placing a chaste kiss on his lover's cheek. (Lips being occupied by the candy cane.)
"Yish ish reyashing," Gil replied innocently.
Nick shook his head.
"You're hopeless."
Gil just smiled at him. He took off his glasses and set them down next to his lap-top and followed Nick into the kitchen to help put away the groceries.
"I got you some more of that medicine you love so much."
"Actuwawy, my feafer broke."
Nick grinned and replied, "Well, it's here if you need it."
Gil crincled his nose, which earned a laugh from Nick.
"Where'd you get that candy cane?"
"Chrishmash shree at ya yab."
"You're allowed to take those?"
Gil shrugged and Nick grinned again.
After having put away the last of the groceries, Nick turned his attention back to his companion. Slowly he approached the older CSI who stood still and watched his every move with intense, blue eyes.
"So you say your feaver broke?" Nick asked in a casual but low voice. His lover nodded, blue eyes lockedwith brown. Nick came even closer, closed his eyes and gently took the the other end of the afformentioned candy cane in his own lips. He sucked the minty candy into his mouth until the tip of his nose bumped against Gil's. When he opened his eyes again, he found that Gil was still watching him, his expression sated, almost sleepy, and a soft smile graced his rugged features. Nick reciprocated with a smile of his own that dimpled his cheeks and krincled his eyes. This action drew a sedated chuckle from the satisfied Gil.
Carefuly, without Gil noticing, Nick gripped his end of the candy cane with his teeth then quicklydrew back, taking the candy cane with him. And with a wide smile, Nick stood back and snickered at the dazed and slightly confused look on Gil's face.
After a couple seconds, Gil seemed to come back to Earth as he realized what had just happened and the cute confused look on his face, turned into an even cuter look of mock indignation.
"Hey!"
"Hey."
"Give that back."
"Giff wha back?"
"Nicky..."
