Hogwarts' was celebrating Opposite Day, a day to act, look, and sound different for a day, in order to appreciate various aspects of life, that are generally ignored. Professor Dumbledore claimed that was what Opposite Day was about, but some Hogwarts' staff and students considered it a gimmicky day, with no real meaning. Despite that, there were several people who decided to celebrate the holiday.

Hermione Granger had been so busy working, studying, and reading as many books as humanly possible, that she hadn't been preparing for Dumbledore's made-up holiday. She got ready for school, earlier and quicker than any of her other classmates. As she stepped out of her bedroom, she looked at a clock and saw that there was almost an over left, before school started. She knew it takes far less than an hour, to walk to class, so she was wondering what she was supposed to do.

While walking around the hallway, she bumped into Ginny Weasley. Hermione said, "Hi Ginny. What's up."

Ginny asked, "Have you prepared for Opposite Day?"

Hermione said, "No I haven't. I usually respect holidays, but Opposite Day sounds as gimmicky as a Batman villain."

Ginny replied, "Speaking of Batman villains, Lucius Malfoy said that the students who don't participate in the Opposite Day holiday, will lose grade points."

Hermione gritted her teeth and responded, "Well that's a problem."

Ginny replied, "Well, not for you. You're the only Hogwarts' student whose average test score is over a hundred percent."

Hermione responded, "Even though that's true, I still don't want to lose grade points."

Ginny replied, "Neither do I. That's why I thought of how we can celebrate the holiday, with little effort."

Hermione responded, "Sounds intriguing. What do you have up your school uniform's sleeve?"

Ginny pulled out a couple of wigs. One of them was blonde, like Hermione's hair and the other one was red, like Ginny's hair. Ginny said, "If we wear the opposite-color hair, we're sure to get some grade points."

Hermione replied, "Not a bad idea." She put on the red wig and Ginny put on the blonde one.

Meanwhile, Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley were getting ready for Opposite Day. In order to reflect their opposite emotions, Harry and Ron wore special shirts. Harry was wearing a t-shirt, over his school outfit that said, "Voldemort Rocks" and Ron wore a shirt that said, "I like learning." Harry had something on his mind, but as usual, Ron was too gullible to tell, until Harry spoke up. Harry said, "Ron, can I tell you something?"

Ron replied, "I'm not fond of actually learning stuff, but since you're kind of my best friend, you can speak your mind."

Harry said, "I kind of have a crush on someone."

Ron asked, "On who?"

Harry said, "Your sister."

Ron spent a few minutes trying to remember who his sister is. He asked, "Is her name Grinny?"

Harry said, "No, it's Ginny."

Ron replied, "Oh, then you should kiss her."

Harry started nervously throwing his hands in the air, while saying, "I couldn't do that."

Ron replied, "Harry, it's Opposite Day. You're usually a pushover coward, so this is your day to be a brave and bold punk."

Harry had a surprised look on his face, while asking, "You think I'm a pushover and a coward?"

Ron answered, "More or less."

Harry defensively replied, "But I fought Voldemort."

Ron responded, "You didn't do much to him, other than shave his hair off and play the 'I got your nose' game."

Harry replied, "Hey, I'm very brave."

Ron responded, "Prove it."

Harry said, "I'm going to kiss Ginny."

Ron replied, "You'll probably just kiss her hand."

Harry responded, "I'll kiss her on the cheek."

Ron replied, "The chances of you doing that are as likely, as me reading an entire book, that isn't a graphic novel."

Harry responded, "If I go through with the kiss, you'll have to read a picture-less book."

Ron replied, "Sounds fair enough." The two friends shook hands.

Harry went into the hallway and tried to find Ginny. A few minutes later, he found Hermione and Ginny, who were talking to each other. There backs were turned, so Harry couldn't see their faces. Because Hermione was wearing a red wig, Harry thought she was Ginny. He noticed that the red hair looked slightly different. He thought the hair looked more beautiful than ever before. He walked up to Hermione and kissed her on the cheek. He took a look at Hermione's face and realized what he had done. He was nervous and embarrassed. Harry nervously said, "Hermione, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to do that." He started running away.

Hermione had a shocked look on her face. She could hardly believed what just happened. She looked back at Ginny and said, "It seems like Harry's magical power is being unpredictable. I have no idea why Harry would randomly walk up to me and kiss my cheek."

Ginny replied, "Hermione, don't you know what this means? Harry has a crush on you."

Hermione asked, "You really think so?"

Ginny answered, "Totally, I didn't say anything, because I didn't want to embarrass you two. Whenever you and I have a conversation, Harry's always lurking by. Now we know why."

Hermione replied, "Wow, I'm not sure how I'm supposed to respond to do that."

Ginny asked, "Are you blushing?"

Hermione used a book to cover up her face, while saying, "No I'm not."

Several minutes later, class started. Professor Severus Snape got into the spirit of Opposite Day, by acting much different. He faced his students, with a smile on his face, while saying, "Greetings, girls and boys. It's an honor to be your teacher. We're going to have a wonderful, fun day of classwork. Start working on your assignment and remember to have a good time. If you get your work done on time, you'll get a stick of gum."

Harry raised his hand and asked, "Are we allowed to speak in class?"

Snape grinned and said, "As long as you don't get too distracted with your work, of course you can. That's a nice question, Mr. Potter. You're one of my favorite students."

Draco Malfoy was wearing a t-shirt that said, "Harry's not the worst thing in the history of Hogwarts." He raised his thumbs in the air and looked at Harry. He said, "You're not bad."

Harry replied, "I feel the same way about you."

Luna angrily stared at her classmates and said, "None of you are good friends and I hate you all."

Harry looked confused, while asking, "What?"

Hermione explained, "Luna's trying to get into the Opposite Day spirt, by acting like the opposite of her last name."

Luna angrily growled at Professor Snape and said, "You're a crummy teacher and your classes suck." She paused and said, "I'm just getting into the spirit of the holiday. I don't mean that stuff."

Snape flamboyantly shook his arms and replied, "Don't worry about it. I value the opinions of all my students, even the non-positive ones."

Ron whispered to Harry, "Snape's more dedicated to this silly holiday, than anybody else."

Harry said, "Speaking of Opposite Day, I did the opposite of what I had intended."

Ron was always eager to hear about Harry messing up, so he asked, "What did you do?"

Harry said, "I was going to give Ginny a cheek kiss, but Hermione and Ginny were wearing opposite-color wigs. I accidentally gave Hermione the cheek kiss."

Ron had a nervous look on his face, while saying, "Wowsers, Hermione's probably ticked off and is going to blast you."

Harry nervously bit his tongue and replied, "I'm worried about Hermione's punishment. She's a good friend, but I'm scared of her."

After class was over, Hermione walked up to Harry and said, "I need to talk to you."

Harry nervously replied, "Um, I can't talk. I have to go."

Hermione signaled for Harry to follow her. Harry gulped, while walking with Hermione, to an empty part of the hallway. He thought he was doomed. He asked, "Why do you need to talk about?"

Hermione answered, "That little kiss of yours."

Harry figured if he told the truth and explained his humiliating mistake, he wouldn't suffer a horrible punishment. He said, "Hermione, I didn't mean to kiss your cheek. I never intended to do that and I regret it."

Hermione smirked and replied, "I know what's going on here. You didn't want to kiss me, because you were afraid about me finding out your crush on me. However, your hear pressured you into doing it, so you finally did it. You're afraid of commitment and that's why you regret it."

Harry responded, "Hermione, you're the smartest person I know and you usually have the most accurate answers. However, this time you're wrong. I was trying to kiss Ginny's cheek, not yours. I mixed you girls up, because of the wigs."

Hermione looked surprised, while asking, "That's really what happened?"

Harry said, "Yes, I'm being honest. Don't worry, Hermione. I would never kiss you on the cheek."

Hermione replied, "That's not what I was worried about." She walked away. She held a book to her face, so Harry couldn't see the disappointed look on her face.

Ginny walked up to Hermione and asked, "What happened?"

Hermione said, "Harry was going to kiss your cheek, not mine. He made a mistake."

Ginny looked shocked, while asking, "He wanted to kiss me? I didn't see that coming."

Hermione sighed and replied, "Like I said before, Harry's full of magical surprises. However, some of them aren't the good type of magic."

A few minutes later, Professor Dumbledore heard a knock on his office door. He opened it and saw Harry. He said, "Harry Potter, what's going on?"

Harry replied, "Since you're the creator of Hogwarts' annual Opposite Day, I was hoping you could help me, because I did the opposite of what I was supposed to."

Dumbledore responded, "Of course I can help you and don't worry about me giving you the opposite of good advice. So, what happened?"

Harry explained, "I was planning on kissing my crush's cheek, but I accidentally kissed my female friend's cheek."

Dumbledore replied, "Wow, that was a terribly dumb thing to do."

Harry said, "I know, but it was an accident. They were wearing opposite-color wigs."

Dumbledore smiled and replied, "Grindelwald and I did that wig thing, during our senior year. I got to be the handsome one, for once."

Harry responded, "Anyways, I explained what happened to Hermione, but she still seems upset. I don't know what to do."

Dumbledore stroke his beard, in order to think better. He said, "Harry, perhaps you've been doing the opposite of what your heart has been telling you, this whole time."

Harry looked confused, while asking, "What do you mean?"

Dumbledore answered, "Instead of trying to impress the closest girl in your life, you've been trying to impress a random girl, who only has about five minutes of screentime per film."

Harry said, "Hold on, Professor Dumbledore. Are you implying that I like Hermione more than Ginny?"

Dumbledore replied, "You came to that conclusion, by yourself. I was speaking hypothetically. You let your mind decide your actions and that's admirable, but since it's opposite day, maybe you should let your heart be in charge."

A half hour later, Hermione opened her bedroom door and saw Harry standing outside the door, while holding flowers. Hermione said, "Harry, why would you be lurking around my room, especially when I'm mad at you? What were you thinking?"

Harry pulled out a bouquet of flowers and replied, "I wasn't thinking and I'm still not. I'm letting my heart make the choices."

Hermione grabbed the flowers, while looking confused. She said, "Harry, what's going on?"

Harry replied, "Hermione, this day has been so backwards, that I barely understand what's happening. Professor Dumbledore made me realize that I've been celebrating Opposite Day, throughout the year. I kept crushing on Ginny, instead of the most important girl in my life."

Hermione blushed and responded, "Thank you. Now, I'm the opposite of mad."

Harry lightly smiled and replied, "I'm relieved."

Hermione responded, "However, you still owe me for that cheek kiss."

Harry replied, "Fair enough. Go ahead and punish me."

Hermione responded, "My pleasure." She kissed Harry on the cheek and said, "There's your punishment."

Harry said, "Wow, I didn't think I'd enjoy a punishment."

Hermione shyly asked, "You enjoyed that?"

Harry tried to maintain by dignity, by saying, "I just meant that in comparison to how hard and challenging punishments usually are, that felt like a breath of fresh air. It makes me wonder what a reward, from you, would be like."

Hermione replied, "Well you do deserve a reward, for getting me such nice flowers." She kissed Harry on the lips and said, "There's your reward."

Harry blushed and responded, "Thanks."

In order to keep the spirit of the holiday, Hermione jokingly said, "Harry, I don't want you to kiss me or ever get me flowers."

Harry understood that Hermione was kidding, so he replied, "Okay then. Besides, I don't have a crush on you. If you'll excuse me, I need to go cosplay as Voldemort." Harry and Hermione chuckled, before Harry gave Hermione a goodbye kiss. Harry started walking to his room. Hermione walked back into her own room. She used to think Opposite Day was a silly, emotionless holiday, but now she had the opposite opinion.
