Smiles. Near never intended to stare at the bright smile the redhead always wore, and he was sure that he never intended to smile a little bit when he saw it. But he couldn't help it, there was something behind it that always got his attention. Maybe it was the warmth, or the happiness behind it, he wasn't quite sure. Although Near was certain, that whatever it was, he loved it. But today was different. The stripe-clad boy wasn't smiling that brilliant smile of his. Instead, he was frowning, and he hated that. Near looked around, making sure a certain chocoholic wasn't around before standing up from his desk and approaching the bothered teen. " Is something bothering Matt? " the younger boy asked the older in his usual monotone voice. " No, I'm alright. Thanks Near. " he smiled, but this smile was different. Instead of making Near feel happier, he felt his heart sink. Matt's smile seemed so.. pained. He wanted to change this, he wanted Matt to be happy. Near then bit his lower lip and allowed a worried expression form on his face. - " H- Hey, I'm okay. Don't worry about it. " Matt reassured him, he really wasn't used to Near showing any sign of emotions, let alone talk to him, but he didn't seem to mind. Near just nodded and walked away, but Matt caught a glimpse of his dark colored eyes. They had a hint of concern on them. Since when did Near care for him? Really, it was strange. Matt was his rivals' best friend! Shouldn't the pale boy be irritated at him? Matt pondered about this a bit longer, until he noticed no one was in the class room anymore. Standing up and fixing his things, he left the room, walking to the room he shared with Mello. He tended to forget about his surroundings when thinking about things.
