"Sunshine kisses falling from the sky

You will never know how you made me cry

The day you told me goodbye,"

Mugen's ears twitched. He turned sharply to see Fuu skipping down the road toward them. He and Jin had nearlyt slaughtered an entire army this time, and collapsed under the shade of a large tree some where between Edo and some small village. The boys had been too exhausted to move another muscle, so Fuu went off on her own to get them some rations. But the basket of goodies she had swinging from her arm wasn't what caught Mugen's attention.

"Sunbeams falling just to touch you

Summer winds swearing they love you

But in your quest, how long it shall be

Always come back home to me,"

A dreadfully rainy day. The ocean was crashing violently along the shoreline. The woman in a dusty yellow (whatever the Hell Koza wears) was walking, singing that same song. She always sang it, while the little boy with matching eye color danced about in the puddles and chased after pesky frogs.

"The doves have their own private love song

And isn't that swell?

I suppose it's time I should tell

Just don't make me wait too long,"

"Ma, why do you only sing the sun song when it's raining?" He'd ask every so often, but she'd never answer him. She'd always kiss him sweetly and scratch at his hair. It was the only real thing he remembered about her. Well, that and she did always smell of salt water. Weather it was from the sea, or from her own tears, though, he never knew. But every memory of her always had a strange darkness to her face. He cuoldn't remember what she looked like… just her sad eyes… her sweet voice… her salty smell. She cried a lot, but when she wasn't crying, she was singing.

Fuu was nearly a few feet away, knocking him back into the present.

"There is no greater love you'll find, dear

I will wait for you- Forever I'll stay here.

Though the sunny rays will bring you much joy

I will always love-"

"My brave samurai-boy," Mugen spoke the last lyric, his voice like gravel in a blender.

Fuu stopped, surprised. She then smiled and knealt beside him, "I got some food. You hungry?"

"Starving,"

A/N- So I read a fic called loathing by Kaytrina. It's on here and its so simple and cute! Basically it goes down the list of reasons why Mugen hates fuu… one being that she sings all the time, and it reminds him of his mother. I thought about taking each one and elaborating on it, but instead, I just chose the one that touched me the most. I never even thought about Mugen having a momma =)

Ps- yes the song sucks. I don't care. I'm no poet.
