Disclaimer: I do not own Tin Man, but I sure wouldn't mind owning Cain. Alas, he's owned by his very own blue-eyed, brown-hair, stick-wielding Princess ;)
A/N: Just a little drabble that's been floating around in the brainpan for the last couple of days about my favourite Tin Man couple.
Apparently I drove Muze nuts (the Angry Birds song appears to do that to an... uh.. inspiring figment of my imagination), 'cause she's been spitting out stories left and right.
This is the first story in my "52-weeks" project. My goal is to upload at least 52 stories (read: drabbles) between September 1th 2011 and August 31st 2012. Preferably one a week.
Raw Knows
Raw know things. Many things.
He knows the Queen still isn't back to the full strength she was before the war. The years in the Sorceress' prison have weakened her, and they don't know if she'll ever regain her full strength.
He knows that the Princess Azkadellia, or "Az" as she now likes to be called, still has terrible nightmares, even months after the witch had been melted. She carries a humongous amount of guilt because of what the witch did, and Raw knows it will take her a lot of time to overcome that.
He knows that Glitch is still more Glitch than Ambrose, even now that both halves of his brain have been reunited, something that has delighted DG. For after hearing stories of the stiff individual Ambrose used to be she feared losing her slightly wacky friend.
Raw also knows that Cain and DG are both hopelessly in love with each other. Of course, neither of them realises the other one is too, which makes this such a puzzling matter. Because Viewers don't offer up information about other's emotion unless they have permission or it's an emergency, and Raw had neither reason.
DG thinks Cain only sees her as a friend, a daughter even; after all, she is only a few years older than his son.
Cain thinks DG only sees him as a friend, a father figure; after all he is only a few years younger than her father, even though his years in the iron suit have slowed his aging progress.
Of course neither of them would express their feelings to each other or tell anyone else about their hang-ups.
All in all, it's a complicated situation
Raw knows other people have noticed it too.
Walking in the gardens of Finaqua one day with Glitch and Kalm, his nephew asks him why the Princess and the Tin Man have not mated yet.
Glitch chokes on the apple he's been eating, and for a moment Raw is worried his healer skills might be needed, but then Glitch's face turns back to its usual paleness, and he splutters "DG & Cain? That makes…" He stops mid-sentence, an illuminated look on his face all of a sudden. "…a whole lot of sense actually."
While he has a partly in-, partly external conversation with Ambrose, Raw tries to teach Kalm about the complexity of human relationships. Perhaps it would be time to teach his nephew about the things Viewers generally don't really talk about unless specifically invited.
Raw knows it will take them a while to get there; the past couple of years have left them emotionally, if not physically, scarred; but he is looking forward to the day this friends will realise the happiness that is right in front of them.
