I Thought You Said Always
Just as the dark of the night descended over the Manhattan sky two 'maybe' lovers fall out of love with each other for the last time. Over the past 4 excruciating years Richard Castle watched the love of his life with other men, who weren't him. He couldn't stand the thought of Kate Beckett being happy with someone else, but he knew she was. She had her own life and he respected that, and in that life she had a boyfriend who clearly loved her, friends who supported her, and Rick Castle, who she didn't need. Or so he thought. Rick had sent Kate a text message telling her to meet him at their usual restaurant they go to after spending long days at the 12th and needed to clear their heads of all the blood and gore. When Kate received this message she was a little hesitant since Rick wasn't at the precinct today. I mean this couldn't be a date could it she thought, and if it was she sure wasn't going. So Kate quickly texted back about how she was too busy tonight and it would have to wait. His response alarmed her as it said he it couldn't wait and he was just going to meet her outside the precinct in thirty. A worried Kate rode the elevator down to ground level, where she walked through the double doors and entered the beautiful New York night she loved so much. She looked skeptically around for Castle but couldn't seem to spot him. Kate turned around quickly as someone tapped her shoulder to find Castle standing behind her slightly teary eyed, this only adding to her worry. Although she could tell something was wrong she just wasn't in the mood for one of their oh so famous 'relationship talks' and tried to ignore it. Castle I have a lot of paper work to do, what could possibly be so important that you needed to see me right this second? Rick was too busy starring at the most extraordinary women trying to lock this final image of her in his mind. Castle, CASTLE, her voice gaining volume. Uh yeah sorry what, he said. I don't know you called me remember. Oh uh yeah I just ummm. Just what castle, she said starting to get angry. I wanted to say goodbye. Goodbye? Yes, he stated coldly, goodbye. Wha what are you talking about, she stuttered. I can't do this anymore Kate, I'm sorry. Can't do what? This, he replied. Watch you everyday and know I can't ever have you, know that I can't touch you, he lowered his voice, or love you. Do you know what it feels like to have something so close that you can almost touch it, then to have it ripped away so quickly? A speechless, teary eyed Kate stood there in the city she once used to love but now was filled of to many useless memories of the man she loved, the man with nothing left to say, the man walking away from her down the crowded street, into a sea of people. I though you said always, was all she could manage to say before Richard Castle disappeared out of her life forever.
