"Daniel Jackson, I do not seem to understand this phrase 'One for the money'." Teal'c sat quietly at the poker table with his cards held tightly in his hands waiting for a response.
Daniel, who didn't even second guess the comment that he said, rubbed his temples slowly as he thought over his hand. O'Neill, who was silent for the most part, was beginning to silently laugh to himself at Daniel's thoughtlessness.
"It means, well, it means that this is a hand that I think is worth a good amount of money," Daniel said to Teal'c.
Teal'c sat silently, thought over the explanation, and said, "I too have 'One for the money'. Perhaps we shall find out who has the greater value of these playing cards and who shall have the single greater amount for the currency present."
Jack couldn't help but crack-up a little bit by the conversation. "Daniel," Jack finally had enough breath to say, "I think using phrases and clichés should now be considered strictly off limits in front of Teal'c, deal?"
Daniel simply nodded, looked at his cards again, and said, "I raise twenty." He placed the chips down on the pile in the center of the table. Teal'c stared silently at the chips, then at Daniel, then at his cards, and finally back at the chips.
"Daniel Jackson, I would like to place all of my chips into the pile, is that adequate?"
Daniel looked at Teal'c with an expression of loathing, but nodded after a few moments. "Yes," Daniel said, "It's called going 'all in'. But I have to warn you, it may be the wrong move."
Teal'c sat silently and then nodded, "I understand the consequences to this, but I would prefer to continue in this action."
Jack looked at Teal'c, pondering what gave the Jaffa such an assurance in a game that he was just learning.
"All right, Teal'c," Daniel said with a sigh, "If you are all in, then I will go all in too. Jack, will you care to join in this?"
Jack thought over his hand, looked at the five cards on the table. Queen of Hearts, Five of Diamonds, Three of Clubs, Seven of Diamonds, and Ace of Spades. Jack look down at his own cards, the King of Spades and the Eight of Diamonds. And I actually thought the King would save me, Jack thought to himself. "Well," he said aloud, "I'll fold." He slid his cards over to the designated pile and sat back to enjoy the show.
"All right, Teal'c, you asked for it," Daniel said and placed his Queen of Diamonds and Ace of Hearts. "Read 'em and weep."
Teal'c sat up straight, leaned his head towards Daniel, and said, "I do not understand this phrase either, Daniel Jackson."
"Oh for crying out loud Teal'c, just show him your cards," Jack said with agitation.
Teal'c leaned his head again, this time towards Jack, "I would be happy too, O'Neill," he said and placed his cards down on the table. Ace of Clubs and Ace of Diamonds.
"Wow, three of a kind, that's how to play Texas Hold'em." Jack patted the Jaffa on the back, "I've got to tell you, Teal'c, I never thought we'd teach you something that actually made money."
Jack laughed at his own comment as Daniel sat a little stunned that he had been beaten.
"And I believe that is 'One for the money'," Teal'c said as he pulled the chips towards his spot on the table.
