I Like the Smell of Onions

It was a sunny Saturday. With nothing else in mind Kurama and Hiei were spending time together. Laying in a meadow they quietly stared at the clouds that floated by. For Hiei the silence of the fox pressed in on him causing him to squirm. Kurama, content, gradually drifted off into a light doze.

"That cloud looks like a pool of blood." Hiei said suddenly, Kurama's uncharacteristic silence driving him to speak.

"Yes it would seem so." Kurama said opening one eye. "A pool of white blood. Not exactly your style is it?"

"Blood is blood. No matter the color. Its smell is always intoxicating." Hiei stated glancing over at Kurama.

"So, you like the smell of blood?" Kurama asked.

"Yes. It reminds me of the old days as Spirit Detectives." Hiei said knowing that his answer would prompt an entire conversation with the kitsune. Yet he didn't care as long. As Kurama was talking he would put up with the questions.

"That's interesting. How so?" Kurama asked sitting up to peer at the fire demon.

"We were always fighting something or another and I guess I enjoyed it. I almost had fun." Hiei said with a small smile. Kurama saw the gesture and started laughing.

"Fun? I didn't know you knew the meaning of the word." He said once he got himself under control.

"Course I do." Hiei said shortly, slightly irritated at Kurama.

A silence descended over the two demons when Kurama didn't reply right away. When Kurama made no move to speak again Hiei spoke up.

"So we've established what I like. What about you?"

Kurama looked over at Hiei pulled back out of his thoughts.

"Me? I'm not sure. What do I like?" Kurama mused thoughtfully. Hiei waited, not sure on hoe to spur the fox demon's answer.

"I like the smell of onions."

"Onions? What could possibly be so great about those odd smelling things?" Hiei asked incredulous, shocked at the fox's answer.

"They remind me of gardens." He said simply.

"That's interesting. How so?" Hiei said imitating Kurama.

"My mother really. I used to help her in the garden she had. Especially when I was little. It was my special time alone with her." Kurama said smiling, reminiscing.

"I remember one time she wanted fresh onions. She tried so hard to make them grow but it was impossible. Finally she got so irritated she dug them up and threw them away." Kurama said chuckling at the memory of the incident.

"Yeah? Well you have your strangeness and I have mine." Hiei said laying back down tired of talking.

"And we accept each other no matter what." He answered back before he too lay down and drifted off down memory lane. Hiei not far, behind his mind peaceful.

SMK: I got this idea while I was walking my dog when I smelled onions. I know it's weird and Kurama probably doesn't care about onions. But oh well just please review and tell me what you thought.
