Two years have passed since the defeat of Majin Buu, and Son Gohan was currently in his final year of highschool. During his final year of high school Gohan decided he was going to work on altering his life, he had regularly obtained excellent marks in academics and was always considered to be well behaved. However, he wanted to improve on his social life.
In the fall he played baseball and he did join the team. It had some of its desired result as he made friends with people that played sports. He got invited on a couple of outings and to a couple of parties so this motivated him to play basketball.
He tried out for the team and unsurprisingly performed phenomenally where he got the opportunity to play in several games. Gohan, by the end of the season, was awarded the most valuable player award. Now he was 18 with many new friends, and set to begin university in the fall.
However, there was still one part of his social life that was lacking. He had never been on a date. In fact he did not have much experience with girls. The only interactions he had with the opposite sex was his mother, Son Chi-Chi, and Bulma Briefs, who was a close friend of his parents. However, there was a huge gap in their age so they did not count.
So he decided to use the phone in the kitchen. He could have taken the cordless for more seclusion but his mom would only sit and bug him for what happened. She was sitting in the kitchen with Bulma having tea while Gohan began calling girls for dates. He had three girls in mind that he would attempt to ask out, so he checked his contacts and dialed the number for the first one.
The number belonged to Rebecca Culver a cheerleader he got acquainted with during basketball season. He waited until her dad picked up the phone.
"Hello sir, my name is Son Gohan, is Rebecca there?" He asked.
"No, young man. She is at a cheer camp for the following three weeks. Were you aware that they actually give scholarships for that? How about you? Are you going off anywhere for the summer or going to college in the fall?" He inquired after explaining where she was.
"Yes, sir. I plan on going to a university. Sorry to bother you, and congratulate Rebecca on the cheerleader scholarship for me." Gohan said.
"You're welcome! I will inform her you called." He said hanging up.
"Well strike one." He said searching for another number.
"Hello, is Erasa there?" He asked a lady who was probably her mother.
"Wait a moment." She said.
"Hi." Erasa said picking up the phone.
"Hi Erasa, it's me, Gohan." He said.
"Hi Gohan, how are you doing?" She asked.
"Good! I was wondering if you would like to catch a movie and get a bite to eat sometime." He asked.
"Oh, Gohan, that is so nice of you to ask but I began seeing Sharpner a few weeks ago. I'm sorry. If I was not, I definitely would have." She explained.
"Ok, that's fine. Sharpner is a cool guy." He said, saying his goodbyes before hanging up. "Strike two."
"Hello, Angela. This is Son Gohan, I was wondering if you would like to catch a movie and get some dinner with me?" He asked.
"Oh, I'm sorry, Gohan, but I'm departing tonight to go on a vacation with my mom and aunt. I'm afraid that I won't return for a few weeks." She said.
"Oh, I suppose I should've phoned you sooner. Well, I hope you enjoy." He said.
"Thank you, and I'm sure we will." She said, hanging up.
"I'll call that one a foul tip; I'll try Videl this time." He said punching a new number into the phone. "Hey, Videl!"
"Oh! Hi Gohan, what's up?" She asked.
"I was wondering if you would want to watch a movie with me or perhaps get some dinner sometime?" He asked.
"I don't think so. You know the entire time we were in high school, I gave you many hints that I liked you and you always ignored them." She said.
"Well, you know me. I'm not so perceptive when it comes to girls." He chuckled.
"I think I'll have to think about it and let you know later on. I just took a job assisting my dad in training and instructing martial art students so I'd like to focus on that." She said. "I'll speak to you later."
"Ok, see yaa." He replied. "Strike three."
He hung up the phone and looked very downcasted as he turned around to see his mom and Bulma looking at him. He shrugged for a second and then sunk his shoulders as he turned to leave.
"You're alright, honey?" His mother asked.
"I suppose, just a bit upset." He replied, leaving the kitchen for his bedroom.
"Poor kid, he's such a nice boy but because of his lack of perception when it comes to girls he struggles really hard when it comes to finding a date." His mother said. "He sincerely wished for one before university."
"He is such a handsome stud; you would think he would have a effortless time getting a date." Bulma said.
"I was hoping that if he could get a date it would improve his confidence before he heads off to university." His mother replied.
"You know with Vegeta constantly doing nothing but training leaving me to manage two half-saiyan kids, I could use a break." Bulma said.
"What are you getting at?" Gohan's mother replied.
"Well, Chi-Chi, I'm suggesting that I could go on a date with Gohan. As a wife of a saiyan and the best friend of his father, who is another saiyan I have known since childhood, I have a pretty good idea what tips and advice to give him when it comes to befriending a human girl. Besides, I don't look bad for a forty-two year old lady. Being home with two children with saiyan blood during the day is tough work. I could use a break and Vegeta doesn't stay around to give me one." Bulma explained.
"Raising up two half-saiyans, yeah, tell me about it. But, wait, the more important question is...You're saying you want to date my son?!" Chi-Chi asked, astonished.
"Well, yeah, you could call it that. But it's just to help him get his confidence and to give me some time to relax away from the children. It sounds mutually beneficial if you ask me." Bulma replied.
"I suppose that does make sense. Let's go and speak to him." Chi-Chi said, rising up from her chair.
