Only a crush. That's all. Or so I thought.
I slid into the aqua gown that I was to wear to the wedding. His wedding. With her. Applying makeup, I held back tears. Didn't want to smear the mascara. I stepped into my green high heels, and picked up my purse. Then I headed for my car.
Working up my courage, I plastered a fake grin on my face. Perfect, I thought bitterly. Why didn't Phineas notice that I had loved him, even when we were little kids? How could he have been so blind?
I pulled up to the pavilion where the wedding was about to begin. Never one to settle for less, Phineas had built it himself. He stood there at the alter in his tuxedo, looking nervous. Ferb, his best man, stood next to him, in his purple tux. I sat down next to Gretchen, and she turned towards me.
"Is it about to start?" I asked with fake enthusiasm. Gretchen nodded, not smiling. I knew she could see right through me. Suddenly, the robot orchestra Phineas had built began playing, and the door opened. In walked little Amanda, Candace's daughter. She was followed by her twin brother Xavier, holding the ring pillow. Several ladies followed in front, and then the bride, Annabell, walked into the room. She really was pretty. Her flowing raven locks fell down her back, contrasting with her beautiful white bride's dress. Her train was 6 feet long. She smiled, blowing a kiss to Phineas. He smiled, and reached up his hand to catch it. But I could still see the nervous glint in his eye.
Suddenly he stood up.
"Stop! Stop! I NEED TO THINK!" He ran out the door. Annabell looked startled, but quickly regained her composure. She smiled again, making small talk with the bridesmaid standing closest to her. Gretchen turned to me, and smiled.
I knew what I had to do.
Ferb was walking out. I stood up and followed him out the door. We walked into the parking lot. Phineas was sitting there, on his car. Ferb walked up to his brother, and said nothing. He only looked at Phineas sadly. Then he walked back inside. I walked up and sat down on the car's hood, not caring that it would stain my dress.
"Look, I know I should be telling you that you can do it, and that this is a decision you have to make, but, I'm not. I mean-well-Oh, how do I say this?"
Phineas gave me a look. He had no idea what I meant. How could I explain that I loved him, on his wedding day!
"Just-don't do it if you're not sure. That's all. Now come on. It's your wedding. Let's go back inside."
We walked back into the pavilion in silence. Phineas took his place at the alter again, and the orchestra resumed. Annabell reached him, and the preacher said the vow. That's it, I thought. He's going to do it.
"I do" said Annabell, smiling at Phineas.
"And do you, Phineas Flynn, take Annabell Larren for your lawfully wedded wife?" The crowd held its breath. Then suddenly-
"I-I-I just c-can't!" He burst out. "I'm sorry, Annabell-" She was turning red, not embarrased but angry. "But I just don't think we're right for each other. In fact, I know who is, I think."
"YOU JERK! YOU UNFEELING, SELFISH BASTARD!" Annabell screamed at the top of her lungs. She stormed out of the pavilion. Her bridesmaids looked confused. One of them followed Annabell out, the rest just milled around, not sure what to do. Phineas called out something. A name. MY NAME!
"Isabella, will you come up here?" The net 5 minutes pass in a blur, but the next thing I know, I am MARRIED! To PHINEAS! And though I don't know what will happen next, for that moment, I am the happiest, luckiest girl alive.
