He tucked the blanket in tighter around the infant for what seemed to Astoria to be the hundredth time. It was hard for her as well, yes, but she knew that the Malfoy elves would watch over the baby as if their lives depended on it. Which they did.
Next to the carrier a small stuffed dragon floated, waiting to be placed in its sleeping master's arms. When Draco grabbed it from the air to place it with his son, a small puff of blue magical smoke streamed from its plush mouth.
"Come now, Draco, it's just for the night. And we're but a Floo away," Narcissa chided gently.
He knew his mother was trying to be soothing, but it took all his strength not to snatch the sleeping babe up and whisk him back to the nursery where he rightfully belonged.
"It's time, Draco. We're going to be late for the Minister's Gala."
He kissed Scorpius' forehead and handed the carrier to Narcissa.
"We'll be by for him first thing in the morning," he reminded her. For the hundredth time.
The statuesque blonde nodded her head before stepping into the green flames. At her utterance of "Malfoy Manor," the two were engulfed by the flames.
Tears sprung to the new parents' eyes as they realized how empty the house would be for the night, causing Draco to head towards his study.
"What are you doing?" Astoria inquired as she wiped a tear away, trying not to smear her eyeliner. "We're already running late as it is."
He gave his wife a serious look, unshed tears threatening to fall before uttering, "I need a shot."
