Elphaba's pencil fell to the floor with a loud patter, and several heads turned to glance at her, for no other reason than to look away from the lesson on the board or simply to make her uncomfortable.

"Students, is Miss Elena's pencil more important than this lesson?" Dr. Nikkidik asked from his perch by his desk. A few students muttered "yes" but most turned back around. Elphaba sighed and bent down to pick up her pencil, but her lithe fingers found warm skin instead of cool wood. She looked up in surprise to find herself staring into the bright blue eyes of Fiyero.

Her breath caught in her throat, as did a stinging condemnation of his attempted good deed, or chivalrous act, or whatever he was trying to attempt. Their heads were far too close. And since when did he sit next to her?

Memories of yesterday came rushing back, being physically displayed through the blush that cursed her cheeks, darkening them noticeably.

"I got it," Fiyero murmured, gently pullingthe pencil and his hand out from under her own.

"Miss Elena, I will not have you disrupting my class!" Doctor Nikkidik barked. Elphaba shot up.

"Doctor, I was only picking up my-"

"I won't have it!" he repeated sternly, earning her some chuckles and smirks. She sighed. Something nudged her from her right side. She turned stiffly. It was Fiyero, wearing his loose grin and holding out her pencil. She snatched it, turning back to face the board.

"I think I deserve a thank you," came a whisper, tickling her ear. She whirled around to find Fiyero far too close yet again. She sighed loudly.

"I will not thank you for getting me in trouble!" she hissed. Fiyero pouted.

"You know, that could've been a moment down there-" he began, a grin returning to his face, but she turned back around before that smile could bewitch her yet again, crossing her arms haughtily.

"Don't flatter yourself," she muttered in a voice loud enough for him to hear. He chuckled.

But he had reason to. Oz, did he.
