A/N- You really won't get this unless you have read "The Cask Of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe. Keep in mind that Fortunato is drunk throughout almost the entire story.
The party was in full swing when I arrived. The sound of talking and joyous laughter was everywhere, and the air smelled strongly of smoke and wine. My heart skipped a beat, as if it just now fully realized what time of year it was. I immediatly walked into the nearest bar, covered in the decorations of Mardi Gras.
My thoughts were dizzy when I found a certain friend of mine. It had been hours since I first arrived, nearly dusk, and i was drunker than I had ever been. My friend had a dark look in his eye, and my thoughts slowly came to the conclusion that he might be mad at me for something I had said earlier, but he gave me a merry smile and greeted me well enough.
I think I started to drool while he was greeting me. All the words coming from his mouth seemed to pass right through my mind, until he said the word,"Amontillado."
At this I was astounded. Amontillado, in the middle of a carnaval?! At this I started to envy my friend. He talked some more, but i just couldn't get over that beautiful word. Amontillado! I saw a flicker of... something in my friend's eye as he continued. He mentioned that someone should taste the wine, but that it should be Luchesi. Oh i will not stand for this!
"Come, let us go," I slurred drunkly.
"Whither?" said he.
"To your vaults."
It did not take long for me to persuade him to take me to the Amontillado. We were in his vaults before I could blink an eye, the vaults of the Montresors. The walk to the Amontillado was full of yearning, and slight annoyance. How could he dare suggest that we go back, just because of a cold?! Nothing would keep me from this wine of the gods! I was about to complain about the length of the journey when he pointed straight ahead.
"Proceed," Mr. Montresor said,"herein is the Amontillado. As for Luchesi-"
I cut him off. At this point I could not stand Luchesi. I reached into the darkness, searching for the Amontillado... and found a stone wall. I turned around, bewildered. Where could the Amontillado be? I pondered over this until I noticed something.
I was stuck in the wall! There was some sort of chain...Oh but where was the Amontillado! I could not focus on anything else until I heard my friend say,"Then I must positivley leave you. But i must first render you all the little attensions in my power."
I looked down at him, and by the light of the lantern saw that he was building a brick wall to keep me in. At first I giggled at his cleverness, this was a fantastic joke! But then I felt a deep sense of dread, a feeling I have never felt before sink through me. Everything became clear as I got what was really happening.
"For the love of God, Montresor," I moaned.
"Yes," he said,"for the love of God."
