Recently, the young women of our ward and I went to sing to an elderly woman who is close to death. She loves music and her favorite song is a hymn from our hymn book called "I Know That My Redeemer Lives" found on page 136.
We went to her house and sang all four verses to her. When we finished , she spoke to us. Her voice was soft and weathered with said, "Thank you. Thank you for singing. You all have such beautiful voices. I know that if you keep singing, the music will bless your life. It is such a great way to invite the spirit. I love you. The lord loves you. Keep singing."
Later we found out that she's been asleep for a long time and that she woke up just to hear us sing. On top of that, she hasn't spoken in a long time, and it was a little miracle that she spoke to us at that time.
It felt amazing being there. I felt the lords presence and his love for us and the elderly woman. I knew that she was a righteous daughter of God.
I know that music is a blessing. It has a powerful influence on how we act, react and think. Listen to uplifting music that will help invite the spirit and the love of Christ.
In the Book of Mormon, in Mosiah 4:30, a part reads "...watch yourselves, and your thoughts, and your words, and your deeds..." Since music is such a great influence in how we think, we should also watch what we listen to.
