Luke Danes stared out the window of the Camp Howanga bus, thinking. This would be his first summer away from home,
and he was happy about it. He felt moderately guilty, but really he couldn't help it. His sister, Liz, and his dad were on his last nerve ever since his mom's death. She had died over four years ago, but the family had yet to get over it, his sister especially. She was a pain, and she always had been. She never helped out around the store, but instead spent her time generally causing trouble around Stars Hollow. Luke had learned over the years that if he didn't keep an eye on Liz, no one would.
The bus jolted to a squeaky halt and brought Luke back from his thoughts. He picked up his duffel and slung it over his shoulder, following the rest of the kids off the bus. He stepped off the bus and looked around. A road, some trees,
and a few cabins down the road. Not very impressive. Wandering over to a buliten board, he found his name on the list for cabin assignments. "Seven B" he said to himself. He turned around and looked down the road. Suddenly there was a scream from somewhere behind him. Luke swiveled around just in time to see a girl flying toward him before she slammed into him. He fell backwards, landing hard on the ground. The girl instantly pulled herself up and dusted off. Luke shook his head, trying to get what had just happened to him straight. Lost in his thoughts, he didn't even notice the girl offering her hand to him until she spoke.
"Hey! You okay?" she said.
"What, oh, um, yeah, I'm fine." Luke took her hand and she pulled him up.
"Sorry abput that. Roller skates kinda went out of control for a minute there." For the first time, Luke noticed she was wearing a colorful pair of skates on her feet. She slipped again, but Luke caught her. "Thanks. I'm Lorelai." she extended her hand again, only this time for Luke to shake.
"Luke Danes. Nice to meet you." He shook her hand. "What cabin are you in?" he asked.
"Umm," she said as she checked the list, "Eight B."
"I'm in seven-" Luke was cut off as two girls ran into Lorelai, completely out of breath.
"Oh god, Lore! What happened to you!" said the first one.
"Oh, well, the skates kind of went out of control, and yeah. Luke here caught me." she gestured in Luke's direction. "Luke,
this is Lexi and Tori. Lex, Tor, this is Luke." Luke shook both of their hands.
"LUKE!" Luke jumped about a foot in the air and turned to see who was screaming his name. A boy with brown hair, and a girl the same color hair, only with pink highlights, were charging toward him. He high-fived both of them. He turned back to Lorelai and her friends, still smiling. "Lorelai, Tori, Lexi, these are my two best friends, Lois and Sebastian."
"Seb for short." said the boy.
"Seb.." said Tori in a dreamy voice. Seb smiled at her. Luke snickered and Lois hit him on the shoulder.
"Let's go find our cabins." Luke suggested, still laughing.
