Moritz felt like he was going to explode as he raced out of the schoolhouse. He sank to his knees on the gravel and let out a sigh of relief. The semester was over and he had slid by once again.

Melchior ran by, patting him on the back. "Well done Moritz, well done." He laughed, running off with the others.

Moritz felt like he was going to cry as he stood up. A giant grin was stretched against his face when he thought of how happy his mother would be. Everything seemed much clearer now, and maybe everything would finally work out after all.

Unknown to Moritz, there was someone else hoping that everything would also work out today. That person was the quiet, reserved, tall and awkward Martha Bessel. Martha was starring at Moritz during this whole euphoric ordeal, waiting for the right moment to approach him.

Moritz had heard Martha had admired him, but had forgotten the fact. Any affection of this kind frightened Moritz to no end and made him very very uneasy. Moritz jumped around outside of the school house skipping down the road to where Martha hid behind a tree.

She bit her lip, the beautiful, sad, boy was coming ever closer to the point where she could no longer contain herself and leaped out of the bushes.

"MORITZ!!" She yelled awkwardly. He jumped, almost falling to the ground. The braided girl towered over him and he felt smothered by her gigantic frame.

"Martha Bessel? You scared me." Moritz glanced around hoping that there was someone else near by to help him escape this obvious trap of human interaction.

"I'm so, so, so sorry Moritz. You look very happy today. Can I show you something?" Moritz couldn't even understand what Martha wanted with him, (and why she was speaking so fast) and before he could even answer her, she dragged him behind the schoolhouse. Martha was very strong for a girl and Moritz tripped under her forceful grip.

When Martha stopped digging her nails into Moritz's wrist, she sat down behind the brick building and patted the ground next to her for the flustered, irritated boy to sit down.

As Moritz looked cautiously into Martha's eyes, he saw a glimmer in them that made him feel very uncomfortable and as much as he wanted to run far away and bathe in the joy of his passing grades, Martha's hand grabbed the sides of Moritz's face and pulled him into a wet, unbelievably awkward, smothering kiss.

When she finally broke her attack on Moritz's face, she gazed longingly into his eyes. "You don't know HOW LONG I've wanted to do that!!" She exclaimed.

Moritz was now hoping this was all just a horrible nightmare. He didn't want to have anything to do with Martha and definitely did not want that kiss to repeat itself. "I…have to…um…do my trigonometry." Moritz sputtered and stood up.

Martha, obviously disappointed at this reaction, stood up to face Moritz and slapped him forcefully across his face before dashing down the road.

Of course, Moritz now avoided Martha at all costs but would never forget his strange, very very awkward afternoon behind the school house with Martha Bessel.
