I've always really loved Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda. So I had to write a fic for it, of course.
The car door swung open and Nico shuffled over to accommodate the extra person.
"Have you seen seen the new post on the school Tumblr?" Jason said by way of greeting.
"I know," Percy replied, "I'm quitting the school swim team. There's no way I'm getting in that pool again."
Nico turned his attention back to the car window. School drama had never interested him.
Jason laughed in the background as houses blurred past.
He couldn't help hearing their snippets of conversations, despite himself.
"Nah, it was actually a post from a closeted kid. I thought it was cool."
He desperately tried to make it look like he wasn't too interested- he gave it a few minuted before he flipped his phone out. He scrolled through the usual drivel as quickly as he could. After what felt like ages, he stopped.
Sometimes I feel like I'm stuck on a ferris wheel. One minute I'm top of the world and the next I'm at rock bottom. Over and over, all day long because a lot of my life is great but nobody knows that I'm gay.
-Apollo.
"You reading it?"
He jumped.
Jason was holding out a plastic cup to him. Nico nodded his thanks and wrapped his hands around the cozy exterior.
"Yeah," he answered.
"I thought you weren't interested in that type of thing?" Percy said from the driver's seat.
Nico shrugged and took a long drag from his straw to avoid answering. The coffee was sweeter than what he usually liked. They must've gotten his order wrong.
The door opened again and Annabeth dropped into the passenger seat.
She shot a smile at him and Jason, and the conversation moved on.
He breathed a sigh of relief.
Really, he appreciated his friends.
He smiled back.
"I wonder who this Apollo is?" Percy mused.
"The whole school has been talking about it. If I were him, I'd never reveal myself," Annabeth said.
She looked over at Jason as they all got out the car. As obvious as ever.
It was a wonder he never noticed Annabeth's feelings for him.
He found his mind drifting back to the Apollo situation. They were in the same boat. It was definitely a situation Nico could appreciate.
A plan began to form in his mind. Too bad he'd have to wait until he got home to see it through.
