Inside Stories: ATLA

This is a collection of tales of the little thought about moments in ATLA. Each one will be a oneshot story of a person or moment in the series that didn't have much attention paid to them. Enjoy! ^_^

Author's Note: I hope you enjoy it! I might do some of these for other series of books, TV shows, and movies. Tell me what you think!

Number One: Encased

This is the story of how Katara felt when the Earth Kingdom general forced her into the stone in the episode "The Avatar State". (Season 2 Episode 1)

"Oh!" Katara exclaimed as the general twisted her deeper into the stone floor of the fort. She tried to free herself, but it was no use. She attempted waterbending, but the general simply brought some dust on the stones up to absorb the water before it could touch him.

Aang was pleading now, and with every few words, the general forced her deeper into the stone. Soon, just her head lay above the surface as she struggled to take breaths with the stone encasing her on all sides. Aang pulled at the general's robes, tears streaming down his face. Katara called to him and the general, but it did nothing to help her.

She was so scared, so scared. The general had seemed like a friend at first, but now he was mad with trying to get A into the AS. It had driven him to put her life on the line for his irrational obsession. Aang sobbed, "I can't, I'm trying!" And the general answered with, "That's not enough. I don't see glowing!" K had just taken another strangled breath when, with a last twist, she found herself encased in stone.

Strangely, she didn't panic. I was dark, and there was little air, because the stone was now permanently in its current shape. She sucked in her stomach and turned her head, allowing for one more breath, but she knew it wouldn't keep her going for long. Above her, she heard muffled shouts and thumps through the stone.

It was an eerie sort of calm that settled over her now. She hoped that Aang would save her, and with all her heart she believed he would.

A few seconds later, just as she was about to pass out from lack of air, Katara was rushed to the surface. She took a moment to regain her senses, and was still dizzy from her near death experience when she stood up. Aang had gone into the Avatar State and was now attacking the fort and its soldiers with full force. She felt horrible, and at the same time, slightly flattered that it had been the threatening of her life over everything else that they had tried that was important enough for Aang to react to with his Avatar powers.
