"People like her don't belong in our world, Austin," Shelby stated. Austin was so disappointed with himself and the fact the Shelby made such a cruel remark just angered him further. He turned around giving her a disapproving frown and wandered off to his locker to gather his books. After he grabbed his assignments for his first class he noticed some guys cracking jokes about "Diner Girl" and noticed Sam standing down the hall at her locker trying to hide her tears. Should I go over there and apologize? He thought. Austin felt horrible about yesterday. He knew it was in his best interest to walk over and make amends. Even if she doesn't accept my apology she at least deserves an explanation for how I reacted. He took a deep breath and slowly walked over to her locker. Making his way through the crowded hallway was a challenge but he was determined to repair the damage. Things seemed to be going in slow motion as he came closer and closer to her, but once he finally made it he froze. What do I even say? She probably won't even give me a chance to speak. Sam was obviously devastated considering Austin was standing less then two feet from her and she didn't even notice he was there. As he contemplated how to commence his explanation he could hear her sniffling. Oh, man. This is going to be harder then I thought. Just as he finally came up with something to say she closed her locker and walked the opposite direction. Wow. She either knew I was there and ignored me. Or she just didn't see me at all. Sam actually hadn't seen him. She was too busy keeping her head down trying to hide from all the gossip and chatter by her fellow students. Austin became more depressed. "I guess, my best bet to talk to her is the internet since I have her phone. If only she hadn't dropped it. We could possibly work this out."
