I'd stared at her locker for what seemed like an hour. Maybe it was only a few minutes. Maybe it was more than an hour. I don't know. All I know was that I moved so slowly I didn't realise. My letter, scrunched in my hand was telling me what to do. What I had to do. Just shove me through the gap in her locker, it was yelling at me. But I couldn't.

Then Freddie just appeared behind me.

'I know you want to do it' he murmured. It echoed around the empty hall. It seemed so loud, but maybe I imagined it.

I moved some more, very slowly. Freddie put his hand on mine and slid the note through Sam's locker.

'Why are you here?' I asked him. It was only two words that he said. But they chilled me to the bone.

'I know.'

Was I really making it that obvious? Damn, against all my attempts to hide it. I wondered if the amount of security and secrecy I put on her note was enough. I'd made a spare copy and agreed to show Freddie.

Dear Sam,

This is from your secret admirer.

I just want to say, you are my soul mate and I love you.

?

I never wanted her to know it was me, but at the same time I felt like screaming it at her. Was this totally normal?

Me normal? I almost laughed out loud until I realized I'd almost missed English completely.

I ran.

Fast.
