A/N: Hello. I know I should update Broken Bonds and the next chapter for that will be out soon I promise, but this one-shot was begging to be written. It still takes place in the same universe, during chapter five between the time Peter finishes reading Frank's letter and the time Susan comes in to Peter's room. This is basically Peter's thoughts and his evolution through his own eyes. The title will make sense I promise. Disclaimer: I DO NOT under any circumstances own Chronicles of Narnia. CS Lewis does. Walden Media, Disney and 20th Century Fox own the films and the actors own themselves.

Out Of the Ashes

His breath hitched as a hiccup escaped. He shut his eyes tight not even opening them when he felt a small pair of brown eyes on him. They hadn't found him, no sign at all. Peter remembered the hurt look in his eyes, the venom in his voice. Edmund had always done that. Peter chuckled softly. He had always hid his wounds well like a wolf, running from the pack so they wouldn't see his pain; but not before lashing out, nipping those nearest to him to let them know he hadn't forgotten or forgiven. And all that over what? Because he, the eldest, had too much anger from a sword, a silly little sword to even take a moment to do something with his brother.

Peter felt a hand reach out as he opened his eyes sitting up and looking down. Lucy's hand rested gently in his as she cooed gently. "Lu'…"

We have kept up the search, but so far there is nary a sign and it hurts me so. Nary a sign… He looked down at Lucy. Nary a sign. He closed his eyes tight. "I can't do this alone."

He remembered his father's letter. How his father ended all his letters; In the Lion's good faith… Love always in the Lion's good faith. He remembered the book his father had mentioned, Aslan's Code. He sighed as he sent out the words. If you really are near… if what my father says is true please help me. Help me find You. Help me find him. Please… help me… Aslan.

Peter opened his eyes, feeling the flood, feeling the change. He exhaled softly. If Edmund was a wolf, then he was a Phoenix. Born out of the ashes of this, Peter knew he could be better, he would be better. For Susan, for Lucy, for his parents, for Edmund wherever he was, he would do what he could. He had to… for Aslan.

A/N: How is it? Did you like the insight? I hope I did Peter justice. Let me know in a review. I'm sure more of these little one-shots will be coming. Let me know if you'd be interested. Look out for the next chapter of Broken Bonds later today. Ok question time. If you do any kind of art or writing, what do you do to get yourself in the mood? If you listen to music, what kind? Leave your answers in a review. I'll give you my answer with the next chapter of Broken Bonds or in a PM.
