Shattered Rainbows
Disclaimer: I don't own anything.
Lianne stared outside. The guards were preparing themselves, like her servants and her ladies. She was being sent to the countryside. It wasn't banishment, they claimed, it was a vacation. Lianne could see a lie when they spoke. Her mother was ashamed of her; her father had been briefly upset but had turned back to being King. Her siblings didn't dare meet her eye. Lianne had broken an unspoken rule. Do everything and do it right.
She'd refused to marry the Prince of Galla. It wasn't entirely her fault. He was overbearing, rude, and cruel and had commented on the cuts on her palm. Her mother had said it had been an accident. He said she was careless. Lianne had shown him what careless was. Of course that had been the final straw for both her parents, and of course had shocked the nobles out of their seats. That brought a sudden round of satisfaction to Lianne. She turned to the window again.
It was ironic really, that the day she was being sent to the country it was a beautiful day. All week it had been raining and now a rainbow was out past the bustling civilization and she could see that it was the perfect day for riding. She knew that rainbows weren't magic. There was a logical explanation. She also knew there was an explanation for almost everything her parents did not that it mattered. Rainbows couldn't shatter, her parents couldn't change, and her siblings couldn't accept her. It was a part of life.
She heard the steps of heels on the stone and Lianne turned away from the window. Her mother would enter the room at any second.
And then, Lianne was no longer so sure that rainbows couldn't shatter because that was certainly how she was feeling.
A/N: It's just a companion piece to Shattered Mirrors and I suppose they'll be more of them just because I like Lianne and Vania out of all the Royal Children. Lianne especially just because I suppose being the middle child it's different because Kalasin was the oldest and probably realized there was a certain amount of responsibility she had to bear and probably liked that attention of being the pride of their family when it came to the girls and then Vania was the youngest and coddled I'm sure so that left Lianne with being in between being coddled and told to grow up and grow up fast. That's just my opinions on the matter.
