Summary: A short drabble about Hiei/Botan. ...she whirled her neck around to find herself chauffeur to a rather smug looking koorime. "Hiei! That was a rotten thing to do, you could have gotten us both killed!" She yelled angrily.

IV - Flying Duties

Botan was wrapping up her final rounds as ferry girl; something she'd been forced to neglect lately thanks to her additional appointment as the spirit detective's assistant. To be honest, working her old job was something of a hobby as of late. It was something predictable for her, something she could do without worrying about how she was going to manage it. Without a doubt, ferrying people to the spirit world was far a more simple task than being the spirit detective's assistant and quite frankly she was glad. Botan didn't think she could stand two jobs of such caliber.

Flying low across the city's buildings, Botan let out a small shriek when her oar became jostled with the weight of a second passenger. Pulling up on the handle, she narrowly avoiding crashing. Once a crash had been avoided Botan whirled her neck around to find herself chauffeur to a rather smug looking koorime.

"Hiei! That was a rotten thing to do, you could have gotten us both killed!" She yelled angrily.

"Hn. I wouldn't have been included in the crash. I would simply have jump off. And you're dead so it really wouldn't have matter." Hiei shrugged, settling himself more permanently onto the oar.

"That's besides the point Hiei! I've got a human body to look after you know. These things don't just grow on trees for us ferry folk. It takes a lot of ogrepower for Koenma to get one of these up and running, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't ruin it!" Botan remarked furiously, turning her eyes back to the sky she was navigating.

Her rantings were met only with a small, "Hn."

"What're you doing here anyway? Shouldn't you be out practicing or plotting for when Koenma releases you from this city?" Botan asked curiously after a few moments of silence. Hiei remained silent and Botan knew she wouldn't be getting the answers she wanted so she opted for a different approach,

"Alright then, if you're gonna be on this oar, then you're gonna help me do my job and don't even think about protesting Hiei. You're the one who jumped on here and almost got us both killed." She didn't care for the youkai's opinion of what would have happened. She was perfectly fine with her version of their hypothesized crash. Looking back briefly, Botan slapped a bunched up scroll into the unamused koorime's hand, "Here's the list, read me off the next name. We've got some spirits to collect."

Hiei would never let her know it but secretly this was something he'd decided on for a while now. He didn't have much skill in the ways of expressing his feelings but Hiei did know he wanted to spend more time with the odd, blue haired woman. Kurama had suggested that he do something rather human and take an interest in something she enjoyed. So he'd chosen this. He'd taken a lot of lives over the course of his career but he'd never actually bothered to see where they went. This was going to be an interesting ride to be sure. He may not like the ferry girl much but he was beginning to think maybe he just might be starting to tolerate her. If she would just listen to the directions he gave her.
