A/N: Written for the Diversity Writing Challenge, A54 – write a 300 word drabble. Just a little spill about Yuugo – though we haven't seen him for quite a while. So this only uses canon up to episode 37.
The Chasing
He doesn't know why he's chasing. He just is. That face that looks like him. That name that isn't. That body that turns away like a coward, that runs from a fight.
He wants a fight. The sort of fight that leads to bonds, to understanding.
He doesn't notice the scenery, at first. How sad it looks. Crumbled. In despair. He doesn't notice the ragged clothes either, looking like they've taken their wearer through hell. He doesn't notice those eyes either, looking like they've climbed out of those very pits.
Because if he looks too close, then something inside of him stirs. And it's enough to make him – even though he doesn't consciously recognise it – to turn away. To keep his distance.
It's not enough to make him stop chasing though. So he chases. Catches. Retreats when those others come – they can't interfere. That is an anger he understands: fights, duels – they're one on one. Friends can cheer but they can't interrupt. And those friends of that other boy's always want to interrupt.
And then, he finds him somewhere else. With a different friend. And they start a duel. He grows frustrated. His name – why is the other always messing with his name? Something tingles at the back of his mind. This hatred for fusion – though it has nothing to do with him, that misunderstanding offers him a little insight –
But he still can't see it. He still can't look too close.
His opponent is gone again. There's just the spectator, unconscious. And heavy footholds approaching. Interrupting again.
He leaves. His opponent is not there anyway, and that other boy will be cared for by whoever is coming.
That boy looks like him too. He only notices then. His attention had been elsewise occupied.
He needs to duel Yuuto first.
