He could not help, but believe that they would make it, that by dawn they both would have survived. They would hold each other as dawn fought the twilight, relieved and excited to continue with their life together which held so much promise.
He believed in her vision of such a beautiful dawn because she had been the voice of reason so many times before. He could no longer witness any other sky, but that of the night sky, not when the dawn had promised his love's safety, and instead it had brought his soul mate's demise.
Emily was not to be with him it seemed. Her warm and gentle spirit had been his light, his North Star guiding him through his black nights. She was an angel, and he was undeserving, his tainted Cassadine blood was not to mingle with such an angel, and so she was taken back with her kindred angels, where she belonged.
So once again Nikolas was a blind man in the dark. He is told that Emily will never leave him, that she will forever remain in his heart, but he knows they are wrong. Angels are too pure to stay in a Cassadine heart.
He longs that she could somehow be with him, but all he is left with are memories that are fleeting fast as his hands attempt to grasp them. He looks at all the wonderful memories of his beloved and they are not enough because he wants her! He wants her tangible so he can touch and taste her.
Nikolas tries to sleep, but he can't; only those at peace of mind can rest, and his chaotic mind mourns for her. Tranquility was only something she could give him.
Elizabeth visits him, and attempts to console him. He sees the needle in her hands, and he laughs sardonically allowing her to give him the sedative without a fight. He doesn't give a damn what is done to him.
He walks alone in the starlight, the only light in the darkness. Nikolas wanders aimlessly calling out her name. He gazes at the stars above and cries out to them, "Release your brightest light!"
The stars took pity on him and transcended their shimmer to the earth, and before him was his Emily. She was beautifully luminous in her white dress which she wore the night of her death.
The stars in the sky bore no light, but that did not matter to Nikolas the light that mattered most was before him. He asked the starlight for a dance to which Emily smiled brightly before taking his hand.
Nikolas and Emily danced as they had so many times before, their own private ball. Nikolas would never wake. He remained with his starlight spending the rest of their eternity in their own heaven.
P.S. Lucky gets custody of Spencer (since he lost Jake and is Nik's bro I thought it fit well). Elizabeth (may have) OD'ed him jk.
