PICTURE OF HER

AUTHOR'S NOTE/DISCLAIMER

Belongs to Mark Schwann and the CW. Takes place in my Tree Hill Dreams reality. I was watching random eps of OTH and got inspired. This may lead to a larger story if I'm so inspired.

Luke sighed as he flipped through the photo albums. He couldn't sleep. Never could during storms. That wasn't to say that the nightmares weren't getting better, because they were, but storms were still something he had an issue with. He sighed and then picked up another album and began looking through it. He then smiled when he saw that it was younger pictures of his father and his uncle Keith. Wow, he thought to himself as he went through the pictures slowly. He hadn't seen this album before and he wanted to take it slowly. I missed so much thanks to Jack and Brenda, he thought to himself as he looked through the book. He hadn't known that parents could be good. He had spent so many years being afraid. But that was all in the past. He was happy now. And he was going to stay that way. He flipped the page and-then stopped, staring at the page. Right next to Dad was a dark-haired woman who was wearing a gigantic smile. Who is she? he wondered. Hearing footsteps, he turned and smiled when he saw his father.

"Hey," he greeted.

"Couldn't sleep, huh?" the man asked.

"No. Storms are still-" the boy began to say.

"Bringing back the nightmares," he finished and his son nodded.

"I figured looking through some of the albums would relax me," he said. Then, "Is this..?"

"Karen, yes," Dan confirmed as he came to sit next to his son. "We were so happy then. But I made some big mistakes."

"Why didn't she want me?" Dan sighed.

"I don't know. But maybe she felt that she was too young to be a good mother, and at the time, I wasn't exactly Mr. Selfless. I can't say for sure if I would've made the right decision," he continued and Lucas nodded.

"Do you ever…wonder if things would've been different…if you had been able to find me sooner?"

"All the time, son. All the time." Maybe if he had, Luke wouldn't have been placed with the couple that had abused him and his life would've been better. "But the important thing is, that you're here now, and all that crap can never happen to you again," he continued.

"Yeah," the boy said softly. He then smiled. "I'm glad we found each other."

"Me too." Both men returned their focus on the album. "Uh, Lucas, son, don't tell your mother-"

"That you said 'crap'."

"Exactly." They both chuckled, knowing that the woman was a stickler about that sort of thing. Then, they smiled and continued looking through pictures.
