CHAPTER ONE

Ciel gazed up at the ceiling with a sigh. It was almost midnight, he noted, as he glanced at his clock, and still he could not fall asleep. Rain pattered against the window, almost impossible to hear at any other time, but each drop was magnified by the silence in the room.

His day had been as it was every day: normal. There were no important events or anything to look forward to for a while. There were only his emotions to keep him awake.

He thought of the time Sebastian had first come to him, saving him from those… those monsters. He shuddered.

He'd watched the most handsome man he'd ever seen strut into the room like he owned it and carry Ciel off. He remembered the feeling of their first touch, when Sebastian had picked him up. His arms had been colder than those of a human, but still he'd nestled into them to keep warm.

Today his butler had, once again, come very close to his face. Mey-rin had tripped, again, and almost dropped a lot of breakable dishes, again. Sebastian had pulled him out of the way, and the two of them had ended up inches away from each other. Again.

It wasn't like Ciel had never stayed awake late into the night thinking about his butler. But usually it was about him being excessively violent or him murdering people or something along those lines. He pondered calling him for a while, then finally made up his mind.

"Sebastian?"

He called softly, barely audible to anyone outside the room, but instantly Sebastian opened the door with concern written across his face.

"Yes, young master?"

"I can't sleep."

The butler had a faintly amused expression on his face as he closed the door behind him and crossed the room to Ciel's bed, and he realized how childish that had sounded. What was Sebastian going to do to soothe him?

"Why not?"

Ciel thought about that for a while, running a hand through his hair. He couldn't very well explain to Sebastian that he'd been thinking about him. Could he?

He wondered what it would feel like to kiss him; to feel his butler's lips against his. He quickly shooed the thought from his mind, but it wouldn't stay away. Would it really hurt to ask? Just once?

"Sebastian…"

"Yes?"

There was a long moment of silence, then:

"Kiss me."

Sebastian looked rather confused, then understanding flittered across his face. He sat down next to Ciel and looked at his master with a sigh.

"Ah, so that's why you can't sleep."

"Sebastian, stop talking and just kiss me. That's an order."

The butler nodded and his eyes flashed briefly as Ciel spoke. He leaned closer to his master, and suddenly his hands were in his hair and his lips were on the teen's. They stayed there for a while, then finally he pulled away and stood back up.

"Do you understand why you couldn't sleep now, young master?"

"Yes. T-thank you, Sebastian."

The butler nodded and left, closing the door gently behind him with a smile. Ciel let out a small sigh and rolled over to look out the window at the rain. Finally he could fall asleep.
